Has anyone simply polled the 3rd district? I would love to know how she compares to Banks in the eyes of her voting constituents.
2

Seattle should just split up into Nine New Cities.

Already voted

@1: I'm quite sure that both campaigns would love to. If you gave a large enough donation to either, they'd take care of that for you. Or you could keep asking on a blog. Let me know how that works out.

Why poll? Good PR (i.e. free speech, i.e MONEY) will get you a football stadium and a tunnel sooner or later.
6
@5:

Because our football/soccer stadium and tunnel that passed long ago have so much to do with a council race this year on Capitol Hill. But yeah, Fuck the Man! Millennial Power!
7
Gee, you mean an initiative proposed and funded by a lone rich crank might not have been a good idea? Duh.

By the way, remember how districts were supposed to make elections cheaper, meaning they'd be more accessible for first-time grassroots-y candidates?

I seem to recall The Stranger buying this bullshit argument by the NIMBY-enabling district gambit hook line and sinker.

Sawant says she is grass roots but is backed by unions. Is it fair to say that if you aren't looking through he BS you aren't trying. Have you ever heard her speak? She says nothing! She recites leftist slogans without any actual ideas. Yea we get it Sawant "tax the rich". But you can't simply tax the rich and have a successful striving city.

I dun get why there are 3 separate races for the 3 at-large positions.

why not just have 1 race and take the top 3 finishers? savings!

@11 (and 8?):

Buy Heidi wasn't here for that so her editors are letting her pretend it didn't happen. It's part of the beauty of churning bright-eyed, credulous, millennial hacks.

Why are those who do not reside in the Third Municipal District allowed to donate to any candidate there? Sounds illegal . . . .
14
WTF? I am no longer allowed to change my comment? I wanted to retype my OP to " Should be illegal . . . ". Pfft!

The big thing to remember with the district elections is that the real role of money will be seen after the ballots are collected in the primary. In District 4 Godden has a lot of money but it will be interesting to see if she can translate that along with being an incumbent into votes. If Provine can get in to the second round using a combination of shoe leather and self-funding that will go a long way towards validating the district approach. My understanding was never that it was designed to get money out of campaigns as must as to enable a candidate who is really connected to a district to be able to effectively overcome the lack of money and still connect with voters at the much small district level. Only by actually having the election will we see if that works out. Otherwise we'll get just another special interest face off in District 4 to see who can support developers more.

Please wait...
