A student throwing a chair across a room is a thing that happens? They earn every penny.

Yes. I have been assaulted, robbed, verbally abused and I am Substitute Teacher. No one wants to hear our stories. We see and hear everything as do the Custodians, the IA's, the Secretaries, the Security Staff and yet no one is asking us what we are doing without paychecks.

I am a long-time Slog reader and have on occasion (ok, on many occasions) bitched about the reporting skills of the Stranger staff. (Most recently, about Ansel in particular.) But I knew that when I logged on this evening Slog would have comprehensive reporting from the picket lines, and I was SO NOT DISAPPOINTED. Fabulous job. The best reported story all year. Thank you.

@1: Donald Trump says he gave a teacher a black eye, which is why he was sent to NY Military Academy, which is just like serving in the military (sorry, couldn't resist going off-trail here).

@3: I know. My brother is a high school teacher and works twice as hard as I do...and I make more. The fuck indeed.

What does that mean?

I am not a parent, but I fully support the teachers. It is in all our best interests to live in a society with reasonably educated people,

"And then the next kid has a kindergarten reading level and is in the eighth grade when it comes to his reading skills." -- it means the 8th grader in question has the reading skills of a kindergarten student.

Stop.having.kids. (if you don't give a fuck about their education, and thus they don't give a fuck about it).

Great job, Ashley and co, giving us the ground-level picture!
