Even if the military wasn't wrong to go after Cabrera, was it fair to go after the several thousand lay civilians that lived in the area? Civilians that included the elderly and disabled, pregnant peasant subsistence farmers, and women and children? Dina was a witness to a scorched earth campaign that indiscriminately targeted entire villages. Having leftists present in a location doesn't give any military the right to exterminate entire communities. The CIA has information that will help provide details on the campaign and they're denying access to these records. Furthermore, if it was "fair game" why are they denying access?

It is great to see the University of Washington initiating this lawsuit against the CIA. UW Law Professor Roy Prosterman has been a central part of US counter-insurgency policy from Vietnam to Phillipines to El Salvador to Afghanistan. Corporate capitalist-imperialist media (like the Seattle Times) give him a pass and treat him as a modern-day hero of sorts.

In El Salvador, his role with the US Embassy, US AID and the AFL-CIO's American Institute for Free Labor Development is well-documented. Specifically, Prosterman's role in El Salvador, along with his advisors, two of whom (Pearlman and Hammer) were assassinated, was - as it was in the Phillipines and Vietnam - to undermine support for guerrillas by creating a land reform.

When we formed a CISPES chapter at the U of W in the early 1980s, Prosterman was a target of campus activism. Seems he was spending a lot of time in CIA stations such as that at the US Embassy in San Salvador and elsewhere.

After reading the TeleSURtv.net piece below, I recommend this analysis piece from the Bend Bulletin from April 15, 1981.

Just watch. The CIA is so going to break in Watergate style, steal UW "intel", and disrupt operations by just being a suspect. Oh CIA, the things you do do just to get attention. I'd say get a pet but you'd probably assassinate it then say, "how dare you...just because we're the CIA, well I never!" Incredulous, non?

Please wait...
