As a $15 min skeptic (especially as a federal minimum), this is very good news, though I'm a little more worried about employment effects than I am about price increases. Hopefully as the data keeps coming in, my doubts will continue to be proven totally misplaced.

I'm a little shocked that 1 out of every 12 or 13 business owners wasn't even aware of the change in law. How can someone be so ignorant?

The grocery business has been raising prices across the state. Or at least one major chain has. I don't know if it's due to Seattle's wages, but this chain very rarely separates prices between Seattle and the rest of Washington.

@2, Right. More buying power means more buying. Give the Poors/Middle-class more money and they'll buy goods that benefit their neighbors and the economy. Further enrich the Rich, and you might as well throw money into a big bottomless pit, for all the good it does.

Interesting. I see it every day, prices going up. But hey, if the studies don't show it, they don't show it.

#3 How can someone be so ignorant? There are so many, many, many laws coming at small business owners every day from city, county, state and federal it is pretty hard to stay on top of them and work 80 hours a week at your small business.

And of course the city sent one postcard the day before the change went into place. Pretty easy to miss.

Still a bit early. Retail can't raise their prices, they compete with Amazon. They either make it or they don't. We are still only at $12 for small business, $13 for big. Let's give it a little time before we conclude this is a success or failure.

AMAZING! that Labor is apparently the only – the ONLY market not subject the essential laws of demand.

Isn't that convenient. Cuz' golly, if it really were like everything else, we would be fucking hosed in about two years.

WHEW!  glad that's not going to happen.

So very little has changed even though the law will be in full effect in 2018 for companies over 500 people and by 2021 for companies smaller than 500 people? Hmmm so far I can't see any reason that there is very little effected except that very little has actually changed. Hurray we are all winners!!!

@8,@9 It always amuses me when people jump up and down and yell 'look how dumb I am!'

So thanks for the laugh.

@10 Good. I hope you're right. Prices SHOULD go up.

You can't offshore or defer the real costs of your wasteful greedy lifestyle forever. Eventually you have to pay what things really cost or face the consequences in higher crime, poverty and pollution.

@11 thanks for the input troll. Very informative.

Please wait...
