The New Antitax Initiative That Could Blow Up Plans for Expanded Light Rail in Seattle

Choo Choo: Eyman’s initiative would wipe out the amount of funding it would take to expand to West Seattle and Ballard. Kelly O

Knowing Washington State voters, we'll simultaneously approve both the Tim Eyman initiative to cap car tabs at $30 (which will take years for the State Supreme Court to rule again as unconstitutional), and approve the ST3 package; then turn around and blame Sound Transit and politicians for not being able to get anything done.
2
When was the last time a Tim Eyman initiative passed? Also, what is the status of those legal troubles he was in?
3
Oh, and fuck Tim Eyman.
4
The left needs an anti-Eyman. If we put a up initiative called the "tax freedom initiative" That said municipalities should have the freedom to set their own car tab tax rate without the a state enforced value, you know the same rubes would vote for it and the Eyman initiative. It's all how it's spun. They would effectively cancel each other out or go to the courts.
5
Why are we still cursed with this creep?
6
@5 Seriously, wouldn't Eyeman be happier in Nevada or Mississippi?
7
Last year was the last time a Tim Eyman initiative passed in this state. Yea he
is in legal trouble. Write the AG and ask him the status. It 's still under investigation.
He spent $190,000 of campaign funds for a lawyer.

Theirs lots of false statements by the writer in this article. They didnt check out
what they wrote. That's why dont pay attention to articles in the Stranger.

and I dont like Tim Eyman
8
Can I write an initiative banning Eyman from writing further initiatives?
9
what a horse's ass.
10
@7: Why is your formatting so weird?
11
Why is Tim Eyeman actually doing this? What does he have to gain? Usually his initiatives tie up our government's ability to pass taxation related initiatives, which ultimately benefit larger corporations. Who benefits from limiting travel in the greater Seattle area? Is this Big Oil?
12
Is there an initiative to ban any and all future Tim Eyman initiatives? I'd sign that motherfucker in a heartbeat.
14
Here he comes again - that box-headed little creep. Too bad there isn't some way of suing Eyman for all the expense he has caused the state with all of these silly-assed initiatives. Frankly, he's the reason why I think the initiative option should be removed from the political process. Seems to hurt more than it helps. If that little bastard has a bee in his underwear about something, let him take the issue down to Olympia and find a sponsor for it and bring it to a vote in the state house. That would perhaps shut him up or at least remove his name from the elections.

Well for all of those who dislike Eyman, feel comforted that an official piece of documentation states that "Tim Eyman is a Horse’s Ass."

Check for yourself, google initiative 831.

For those who dont wish to do that here is the link:

Do with it what you will.

Tim Eyman is nothing but an initiative filing whore. He found that he could make more money filing annoying hateful harmful initiatives than selling logo watches. Rather than get a real job he decided he'd go into the initiative filing bidness.
17
"Sound Transit's MVET dollars were grandfathered and the agency was allowed to continue collecting, but only recently got the authority to collect new MVET cash."

That wasn't 695. That was initiative 776, another Eyman initiative, that was specifically designed to prevent light rail from being built. The Stranger endorsed 776 and gave Eyman completely fawning coverage as he tried to destroy light rail.

Every time he files a new initiative to damage transit, whoever the fools were at the Stranger that thought it was a good idea to get into bed with him should apologize for helping him become what he is today.
18
I would post my true feelings about Tim Eyman here, but there's laws against making statements like that so I will refrain from doing so.

This is his job--he pays himself a very nice wage to run these campaigns. That's why he keeps pushing obviously unconstitutional initiatives, which could have been tweaked to be constitutional--it keeps the con going for another future initiative.

He probably believes in this crap, too, but that's clearly secondary.

It's good to keep this in mind. This paper was completely around the bend for the Monorail, which by that late date was dumb but ultimately forgivable. That they joined the demented monorail dead-enders' insane, reactionary "must destroy light rail" war to such an extent that they were willing to lie down with Eyman is considerably less forgivable.
