I beg to differ, "Nope he won't". Ben Stuckart is the real deal. Any time there's any sort of strike action in or around Spokane, Ben is on the picket line. Not to be too hyperbolic about it, but listening to him speak reminds me of the episode in the West Wing where Josh goes to see Bartlet speak for the first time. For all you doubters out there, I say, "Wait and see." Personally, I'm a believer.
@1, @3 - ooh, look at the new accounts created just to comment on this article! Surely CMR's folks aren't concerned at all about 2018.
For everyone else in Seattle: there's little payoff for supporting yet another Dem in our area (the results are inevitable), but surely this guy could use some of our financial support to help him get his word out. Make a donation and help kick Cathy's butt out!
@4,5 I'm actually a Bernie voting Seattleite. Difference is I actually have a better pulse of the rest of the state then a stranger writers. Tell me how is the cat tabs for st3 doing outside of the urban core
That being said 4 is right liberal Seattle dollars would go farther out side Seattle but care full you can spend 8 million and still loose because you don't actually represent or live there.
Hooray---it's about fucking TIME! Go, Ben Stuckart, go! Let's Make Red America Think Again. Low-income, blue collar Trumpzilla supporters and apologists currently have everything to lose to the GOP's shameless ponzi schemes and nothing to gain. The sooner Trumpzilla and its evil empire are ousted, the better. Red America: stop watching Fox TV. It's bad for your health, the U.S., and the future of this planet.
This is definitely the kind of district that's a longshot, but Trump's grotesque incompetence could put into play. Glad to see there's a serious, promising candidate here.
I've had the privilege of getting to know Ben Stuckart over the last couple months as he's already made several visits to Walla Walla county. If there is one thing all Americans can rally behind, it is removing the influence of money from politics, and Ben is committed to this goal.
No more comfortably corporate, moderately mediocre politicians. Stuckart is the progressive voice of the people we need to fight the billionaires and corporations currently having their way with our nation.
I see everyone's passion here, but one thing has become glaringly obvious here in America; this country has no taste for National Socialist Democracy (NASDAP-look it up). Stuckart won't beat Rodgers because of everything ideologically wrong with her entrenched way of representation. Stuckart won't beat Rodgers, because America doesn't want what the Democrats are pushing.
We will make no inroads as long as we refuse to run a progressive message in places like Spokane. We should be supporting candidates like this everywhere. Most of them will lose, but they will be heard, and the appeal of their message will grow. It'll take a long time, but it needs to be done.
Maybe next time we could get a reporter to ask about Ben's positions on federal level issues. As voters, we need real information. Sorry if I sound bitchy, but this article left me with a lot of unanswered questions. Namaste'
Stuckart's average contribution is $852. His median is $500. Does he represent us?
Also - - I don't think the city councilman of a district that didn't turn blue in 2016 has a good chance of turning the 5th CD blue in 2018.
Matthew Sutherland represents a fresh face for Eastern Washington, and has the appeals we need to reach across the aisle and appeal to conservative voters to get Cathy out.
I do so hope he's successful and that he proves my belief which is Dems WILL WIN when they find their backbone, repeat their message and then repeat it again, and STOP running away from progressive values like: We take care of each other and the earth. Speak plainly and authentically and let the chips fall where the hell they will.
@14. He's a local pol so that's what he speaking to at this point. He'll learn on the job like all of us do. You're going to turn your nose up at this interesting candidate and unique opportunity because he's not perfect in your opinion? Are you a privileged white person from Seattle, by any chance?
@14 I reacted to your post immediately and then went back and read yours and it's not as bitchy as it first struck me, so I apologize. It's just that lefties so often make the perfect the enemy of the good and we hold out and hold out and end up with nothing. We set impossibly high standards and feel we have to fall in love with our candidates, when we don't. We just have to trust them and their commitment.
Stuckart is exciting because he's so honest. Let's support that boldness when we find it. There are no promises in this life.

I hope westsiders contribute and volunteer

Sorry again.
