Seattle's silence on Clergy abuse is very much in keeping with its cultural norm of non confrontational avoidance of controversial issues, e.g., race and racism in past years, not so much now.
For solutions to our housing crisis, Ontario has some answers:
Ontario's Liberal government will slap a 15 per cent tax on home purchases by non-resident foreigners and will expand the province's existing rent control system to cover all tenants...
In addition to the foreign buyers tax and expanded rent control, the measures also include:
A rebate of development cost charges to encourage building of more rental housing.
A standardized lease document for all tenants.
A ban on flipping of pre-construction units by speculators.
A review of the rules governing the conduct of real estate agents.
We don't need to reinvent the wheel here. Solutions that are working in similar cities could work here as well.
The silence instead of support for rape victims is endemic because so many civic leaders here have the kinds of sociopathic tendencies Murray exhibits, and they victimize on the regular. Any criticism of such behavior is perceived as a deeply personal threat, and met with punishment.
No. Some of us would prefer to let trained legal and psychological professionals do their jobs rather than hand Murray over to the internet lynch mob. Innocent until proven guilty and all that.
We don't need to reinvent the wheel here. Solutions that are working in similar cities could work here as well.
both things are worthy of outrage, but I'm fatigued with outrage.
