Typical republican
3
Why does the US tolerate Nazis?

Umm, remember World War 2?
6
Simply the logical extreme.
7
We could also call it Trumpism.
8
Rot in Hell, Jeremy Christian. Trumpzilla-crazed RepubliKKKans for prison--NOW.

What a piece of garbage!

I’m sure there are many white supremacist sites extolling Christian’s virtues. Let’s see “Christians” say “Oh he’s not really a “Christian” so it’s not “Radical Christian Terrorism!”

The hell it’s not!

Just like that creep Robert Dear at Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs--“Oh he’s not a real Christian!” So tiresome!

The fact that he didn't die in a hail of police ordnance speaks volumes.

I agree with Our Dear Ken. I am opposed to the death penalty, and I try very hard not to hate anyone, but this person is just a waste of skin. If he ends up meeting some gruesome end in prison, I wouldn't shed a tear. He's one of the shining examples of why we need unlimited access to free abortion. If we had, maybe his mother would have taken advantage of it, and we wouldn't have to deal with his sorry soul.
14
Sure, terrorist. Antifa is the problem.

This is Stochastic Terrorism, nothing less. Dude's going to be diagnosed and duck a life sentence w/o parole.

Hell, it's OR, so who knows? After Malheur, he might walk.

This guy was a Bernie Bro. White supremacists have flocked to the hard-core socialist movements in recent years.

Charles is going to go full-circle and join the KKK.

@15 With your man Trump doing his Vaudeville act in DC, I guess this is all you have left. Buzz word salad

I was in the Philippines back in 2010. Election Day come around, and my employer advised me not to leave my apartment on that day. I asked why.

He said that politics here was a little different than it was in the States. Supporters of different candidates shoot each other dead in the street during rallies. The US may have Poli Sci, he joked. We have Poli Vi.

Political Violence is an unfortunate reality in most of the world. In South Sudan, supporters of the former Vice President are engaged in a ground war with supporters of the President. In Imperial Russia, anarchists frustrated with the slow pace of reform in the late 1800's and very early 1900's engaged in what they called 'The propaganda of the deed"- if the Tsar appointed a minister they didn't like, they'd just assassinate him. Sometimes (Alexander III) they got the Tsar himself. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, President Kabila came to power by assassinating his father. Who, in turn, came to power by assassinating the aging dictator. Who, in his own turn, came to power by assassinating the only democratically elected leader of that country. With the CIA's and Belgian secret forces' help, of course.

Poli Vi was so institutionalized in the Ottoman Empire, it was a legal requirement. Any Prince ascending tot he throne was required by law to strangle to death his siblings with a silk cord.

The US has had sporadic outbursts of Poli Vi throughout its history. The Civil War, for example. It hasnt been a daily fact of life here for quite some time. Under Trump, it appears to have returned. If we do not excise Trump from the nation, things here could become as bad as they are or were in the above mentioned countries. For some populations in the US, it's always been that way. Police Brutality in Ferguson is a political act intended to suppress a population and prevent it from coming to power. The same is true in Baltimore. Jeremy Xian's terrorism is also an act of political terror, albeit conducted without the official sanction of the state. Youre just not used to seeing it in the idyllic woodlands of the Pacific Northwest. It will get worse the longer Trump remains an inspiration to those who conduct political murder.

@15 If only we had socialized medicine 2 people would not have lost their lives.

Haters' gonna hate, I guess.

I just think it's ironic that this "patriot" is using ISIS' own methods... did he study in Syria & the Levant recently?

@12 - With due respect Catalina, I think he's a good example of needing universal access to good, free, lifelong education. Although you're right, it's entirely possible his mother & father were in no position to raise a child & should have terminated; still it's possible for people to be good parents and their children to turn into vile humans on their own. I blame him for his own malevolent agency, not his parents.

@13 - Are you saying that "American Democracy" looks like stabbing people in the neck on a train? Because that's how your statement reads, w/o greater context. That's not what democracy looks like to me.

@17 -- Re: Poli Vi... Thanks for that term. It's going to be useful, sadly. This is what happens when (a) the Rule of Law breaks down, and (b) too much cultural change happens in a short period of time, with (c) lots of people in economic distress, and (d) a political leadership that is clearly fanning the flames of intra-group animosities and confusion ("fake news!").

I would like to add that we have had more Poli Vi since the Civil War than you suggest:
The shooting of Gabrielle Giffords; The Bald Knobbers; The Oklahoma bombing; any number of militia actions (over 70% of police killed by citizens are killed by armed white men, often militia-linked or "sovereign citizens"); ELF arsons; Earth First! sabotages; the assassinations of the Black Panther leaders; Weather Underground bombings; JFK (of course); the Haymarket bombing; numerous Pinkerton murders of striking miners; the near lynching (by police) of Thurgoo…; the LA Times bombing (1910); any number of church arsons in recent years...

You've shown me the truth, gosh it's a good thing Bernie Sanders didn't get in, imagine the wave of violence we'd be facing.

@20,

I see it as one of the hallmarks of a failed state. Max Weber suggested that all governents must hold a monopoly on political violence, as expressed through the police. Once that monopoly has been broken, you have a dual power- one being the state, and the other being those who conduct political violence independent of the state.

The rival power can replace the government, if it becomes stronger than the government. It is for this reason that all politicians everywhere curry favor with the military. There has never been a successful revolution in the history of the world that did not involve the military siding with the revolutionaries. It is further why those who formerly chastised the police forces inevitably advocate for the police forces upon coming to power. Note the measured stance Obama took regarding police brutality during his terms. While he clearly favored reform, he was rather gentle in how he pursued it. His first act upon assuming power and hearing of a cop harassing an innocent Black college professor was not to call for the cop's arrest- instead, he had a beer with him and the teacher. When Jay Nixon sent militarized cops into Ferguson, you will note that Obama did not approach Nixon the way LBJ approached George Wallace (back down or I'll rip your balls out with my bare hands). Wallace was, after all, a member of a rival political party leading a state that would never support the Democrats, and Nixon a loyal Democrat running a swing state- and even then LBJ never insulted the Alabama cops themselves, just the governor). Instead, Obama was largely silent on the Ferguson issue.

Jeremy Xian has said that if Trump were the next Hitler, Xian would join his SS. That implies that Xian already sees himself as a paramilitary, which acts as a rival power to that of the state. In the past, the POTUS has always been quick to crack down on paramilitaries. Grant and LBJ both went after the KKK in their respective Presidencies. Clinton went after the Montana Freemen, the Branch Davidians and sent US Marshalls into Ruby Ridge. It can be argued the latter two were bungled operations ultimately causing more harm than good. However, the intent in every case was to prevent a rival power from gaining sufficient strength to seriously threaten the monopoly on political violence enjoyed by the state.

You will note however the absence of a similar response from Trump to the situation brewing in the Pacific Northwest. The Pac NW has long been a target for the Far Right. The "Northwest Territorial Initiative" is a term used by neo-nazis and other Far Right groups such as the Watchmen on the Walls and the Order, as well as the Christian Identity movement. They see WA, ID and OR as the ideal homeland for an all white ethno-state. This idea has been around since the Civil War, and its why you see groups such as the Aryan Nations setting up shop in Sandpoint, ID. Much of the crystal meth that is sold in the region is manufactured by these groups and used as a source of income.

There is a real danger that Xian's fantasy of a Trump-inspired SS isnt pure delusion. These groups have been in the Pac NW for a very long time. Fascism as an ideology is all about the Big Man, a messianic (forgive the irony) figure, who is required to lead the charge to victory. They're always looking for Superman. Literally. Uber Mensch (Super-Man in German) is a central concept in fascist political theory. Anyway, if they see Trump as this leader, they will work hard to organize a dual power in the Pacific Northwest capable of challenging the state of WA and OR governments, not to mention the municipal governments, believing that Trump will at worst ignore them and let them assume power or at best support them.

His inaction at this stage (the mildest of condemnations- merely deeming it "unacceptable") implies they may be encouraged to keep going in developing their rival power and basing it here.

Please wait...
