Tacoma City Council Bans Camping on Public Land: Tacoma, which declared its own homelessness state of emergency in May, passed an ordinance that will allow police to write homeless people camping on public land tickets that could cost up to $1,000 or send them to jail for 90 days.

SEIU 775 Endorsed Jenny Durkan for Mayor Yesterday: The local chapter of the Service Employees International Union had endorsed Mayor Ed Murray before he dropped out of the race, but Murray has since endorsed Durkan, and now SEIU 775 does too.

Business Groups Are Buying Ads for Durkan and Council Candidate Sara Nelson: "Two independent expenditure (IE) campaigns funded by business interests plan to spend a combined $200,000 on online advertising in support of Durkan and Nelson, according to public campaign finance records," Heidi reports. "The groups are funded by two political action committees: the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce's Civic Alliance for a Sound Economy (CASE) and Seattle Hospitality for Progress, the political arm of the Seattle Restaurant Alliance and the Seattle Hotel Association."
