Personally, I feel that golfing is a ridiculous sport. Both Papa and Mother Vel-DuRay engaged, but I never saw the point of it. With that said, I don't think anyone with an ounce of sense would say that the city owned golf courses are enclaves of the wealthy. They are strictly for the proletariat who enjoy golfing, and that is as valid a pursuit as biking or jogging or soccer.

If one wants to get all huffy about golf courses in the city of Seattle, take a look at Broadmoor or SandPoint. And if you want to be thoroughly exercised, take a look at the perpetual scar on the Cascade foothills that is the Newcastle Country Club on the eastside. It is a blemish on the otherwise lovely vista that Chez Vel-DuRay enjoys from the terrace and Sala Grande.

I'd be willing to bet that none of those private clubs have even inventoried what they use to keep their greens green - and if they do, they won't release it.
