@1,
wow, you're right, we should all quit our jobs and abandon our homes and become drug addicts because then we'll get lots of free shit and we don't have to follow any laws!
Oh shit, I've got an even better idea... let's move to Somalia and be pirates! No stinkin' government laws or taxes at all! Freedom!
Educated into stupidity, these lawyers have no common sense, decency or consideration for the GREATER GOOD. Screw the law-abiding working class, the only people who actually pay their own way.
"First Collector: At this festive time of year, Mr. Scrooge, it is more than usually desirable that we should make some slight provision for the poor and destitute.
Ebenezer: Are there no prisons?
First Collector: Plenty of prisons.
Ebenezer: And the union workhouses - are they still in operation?
First Collector: They are. I wish I could say they were not.
Ebenezer: Oh, from what you said at first I was afraid that something had happened to stop them in their useful course. I'm very glad to hear it.
First Collector: I don't think you quite understand us, sir. A few of us are endeavoring to buy the poor some meat and drink, and means of warmth.
Ebenezer: Why?
First Collector: Because it is at Christmastime that want is most keenly felt, and abundance rejoices. Now what can I put you down for?
Ebenezer: Huh! Nothing!
Second Collector: You wish to be anonymous?
Ebenezer: [firmly, but calmly] I wish to be left alone. Since you ask me what I wish sir, that is my answer. I help to support the establishments I have named; those who are badly off must go there.
First Collector: Many can't go there.
Second Collector: And some would rather die."
There was a van parked by the playground at the park near my apartment for weeks. There was a pile of needles, garbage and human waste accumulating next to it. Thankfully the cops finally dealt with it. When I walked by, you could see that the back was filled with stolen bikes and electronics. It was finally towed. This court ruling is such BS. Hopefully Seattle challenges it. I have had enough of the shitshow.
From the original ST article: a friend lent him a working truck which he is now living in. The original has been parked in white center for the past 5 weeks and is non functional.
And this comment which seems included just to enrage “I don’t really like to pay rent anymore". He only makes $300-600 a month so he cannot afford to pay rent practically anywhere. But this seems to me that this is a great point for outreach intervention. Janitorial work at Centurylink is obviously not providing enough hours to begin to support a person, but a quick google search turns up many janitorial openings with more hours. It seems like this ruling is just enabling an unacceptable status quo.
Even in poverty stricken Somalia there are social norms and laws which you'd be required to abide by. No exception if you are poor.... Isn't it interesting that a "poor person" can file and bring a cause of action in Superior Court...cost estimate is a minimum of $20,000, paid for by others, but we can't find $500 to pay the tow fee?
Only in Seattle!
Exactly. It sounds to me like you'd be far happier in Somalia. All the poors there would be forced by social norms to give you the respect you demand. They wouldn't be able to waste your hard earned money. Low taxes. Less government interference. It's a libertarian paradise. I would think you'd love it. Right?
If there's anyone in this country that is guilty of not having to follow the rules and social norms of the rest of us, it's corporations.
They flaunt the laws and break social norms far more than the poor and homeless. Corporations' drain on the public trust and capital is much more devastating than a few poors getting out of a parking ticket.
Pull off the wool covering your eyes and try to focus on things that actually make a difference instead of complaining about how many bread crumbs some homeless guy is hoarding.
Actually this judges ruling may turn out to be a blessing to at least one segment of the homeless, that is the older homeless. The ones that are not quite old enough to retire but who did have jobs that are now obsolete. If they are laid off and do not have any real marketable skills or simply can't compete with a young person they may well have enough money to buy a motor home or a pickup camper combo or a trailer. There are many available for under $5K though they are in lousy shape. The drivable condition really wouldn't matter as they would be used as a dwelling; you would simply drive them somewhere in the city and park them and squat. Even an itinerant though regular worker, such as in construction, could give up an apartment and become effectively homeless then park a motorhome or perhaps a trailer somewhere near the job site. When the job is over simply move on to the next job site. One could effectively work at a good paying job and live rent free; after a fews years one could save a tremendous amount of money.
Still, I don't want POS vehicles with of garbage, rats, feces, etc. The current city council has had ample time and resources to show some improvement, and they have not. We have lots of new boards and commissions staffed with like minded City council advocates. The city electeds manifest enemies of their ideological views. Just give our leaders more authority and more money, their enemies are still too powerful. Please help them vanquish the greedy and selfish residents of the Emerald City. The city council are ineffective hypocrites.
Attorney Logerfo stated people who "have no other choice but to sleep in their vehicle". That is non-sense. Our city budget this year is $105 MILLION for homeless programs. This person has the choice to sleep in a shelter and stop trashing neighborhoods. This only passed in Seattle because we have activist judges who have no respect for civil society.
It’s official! Seattle is now the homeless KOA campground of America! Enjoy those buses parked on your curb with the occupants draining the chemical toilet in your storm drains! Seems appropriate to state that Freeattle’s shitter is full!

.
the city cannot base policy on the knee-jerk reactions of intolerant retirees.
•What's the mpg on your vehicle, and how many miles per year do you drive it?
•How many children do you have?
•What's your carbon footprint?
You're a bigger burden on this planet than a county full of homeless.
Fuck. Off. You precious wimps.
