Let's be clear. Employers are already required by law to do everything that is in this ordinance.

2

Is there a way for working parents to comply with this law and not hire two nannies with overlapping schedules?

"What is a rest break?
A rest break is 10 minutes of uninterrupted time when a domestic worker is completely relieved from work duties. Under state rules, a compliant rest period may be comprised of shorter intermittent breaks; under the proposed ordinance, the rest period must be uninterrupted and may not be intermittent."
"When are rest breaks required?
Hiring entities must allow a rest break of not less than ten minutes for every four hours of working time. The rest break must be allowed no later than the end of the third working hour of the four-hour work working block of time. "

Awesome!

I guess I’ll have to look for cheaper Mexicans to cut my lawn. Seems to be plenty of competition

5

@2 Sure, apply the new firearm safe storage law. While on break place the baby/child in a locked storage device to prevent unauthorized persons access.

6

@2 maybe that falls under the "impossible or infeasible" clause.

7

Yeah, like I would have given our nanny two mandated 10 minute breaks during every 4 hour period while she was watching our kids. Just so the kids could wander off or something. What f*cking planet do these people live on?

You know when nannies get a nice break? Nap time. And only then.

By the way, the Guatemalans will easily take the lawn care work if the Mexicans who do it now insist on me following these rules. Que Será, Será amigos.

"House cleaner Maria Luisa Cruz told the city council Monday the city should help provide a retirement program for domestic workers. “I am not that young anymore and I’ve cleaned homes for many years,” Cruz said through a translator. “I ask myself: What will happen when I can no longer work?”"

Wait, she wants the city to pay for her retirement? Whatever Casa Latina has been giving you to smoke, you should stop.

Maybe Mike O'Brien wife will volunteer you to work at his wife's Firefly kitchens for free since she enjoys not paying her workers.

Or social security, but it's not city taxpayer's job to fund your retirement.

Bravo! This law is a welcome addition to how we care for the people (most often women) who do our dirty work. They deserve every support. Bravo, CM Mosqueda.

@ 4, @7, @8:

PodrĂas ser un pedazo de mierda.

11

@10 Que?

12

@8 That was my thought. When did it become the cities responsibility to provide retirement benefits???

15

@14 i hope they are paying their B&O taxes and have a business license.
