Did Vail Resorts mention how much the lift ticket price increase was going to be? Vail Co is $175. What about parking? Stevens fills up pretty quick. Oh yeah, you have to pay to park at Vail too.

3

what happens is prices go up.

@1 Stevens is a lot higher than Snoqualmie. The thinking may be that as the snow gets shittier there people from Seattle will be a lot more likely to drive slightly further to get to the better snow at Stevens.

@1 shortening of the winter season may well be a significant factor in the massive consolidation of the ski resort sector.

@2-exactly. I am very concerned about how much $$ Vail thinks they can mine out of this. @1-the reason VAil is buying resorts all over the place is that they are concerned about skiing in Colorado becoming less dependable. Snow there is already much less dependable than, say, Utah, and has been for years.

7

Oh, and these lifts won't do a damn thing to make skiing at Stevens better. Getting up the bunny hill faster (Daisy) is of no consequence to most skiers, and the terrain on the Brooks chair is weird, and mostly flat. Neither adds much.

8

@7 HS quad replacing Brooks super slow double will take basically all of the park riders off Skyline. It will greatly improve wait times. It's great for the park kids and good for everyone else!

9

@8 Skyline is already not bad in terms of lift lines. Hogsback is the big bottleneck, and these changes won't affect that at all. They should have upgraded Big Chief instead.

Maybe instead of indulging in Alpine Recreation this year, you and a few of your snow-friends could pool all the money that you would have spent on lift tickets, gas, gear, grub, and ganja, and use it to instead pay rent during the coldest winter months for a homeless person or two.

Or does the but-we-could-spend-that-money-on- argument only apply to governments?

11

@10 - what makes you think we're not?
