It's something of a dark secret - at least one most people with deep roots in the PNW seldom acknowledge - but WA, OR & ID have always been fertile ground for xenophobes, fascists, anti-Semites, and white supremacists. The KKK was openly active here in the 1920's (look up stories about the 1924 Klan rally held in Issaquah that attracted more than 55,000 people). And of course, one only has to go back a couple of decades to find news accounts of WS/neo-Nazi resurgence in the form of groups such as Aryan Nations and The Order, which among other things advocated for turning the PNW into a "American redoubt" where whites would rule with impunity. Patriot Prayer and their ilk are simply the latest incarnation in what has been a long string of like-minded groups going back a hundred years or more in this part of the country.

The only time in my life I have actually seen members of the KKK in action was when I was in naval technical training school (immediately following boot camp) in rural Mississippi.
