They’re literally going to stuff the Battery Street Tunnel with the old freeway. Aaron Bagley

It seems they can only stuff a fraction of the viaduct concrete into the Battery St. Tunnel.

2

yep, won't fit.
Just visualize those massive pillars, thrusting skyward. Their girth, their base.
Then try to visualize that narrow slit in the landscape. That tunnel, hidden away, soft, wet.
They will have to prep it first, gently widen it... patiently patiently expanding its ability to take the few first tentative loads.

BOLLOCKS!

@2 - I don't know what you're talking about, but that gave me pants-feelings...

I feel like there are several companies that could allow their employees to work from home - or alternate over two or more days - just for 1-2 months to help alleviate some of the traffic. Obv not an option for every job, but certainly it would help.

6

How much would it cost to use the tunnels for "Seattleville Encampment?" One tunnel for each majority gender, three port-a-potties and 2 dumpsters in each tunnel? Hold how many tents for homeless people?

7

Housing space for "homeless tents?" One tunnel for each majority gender. Cost? Monthly rental for 2 dumpsters and 3 port-a-potties in each tunnel.

8

I suggest a municipal wine cellar would be the best way to immortalize the tunnel.

Decommissioning the Battery Street tunnel is just plain dumb. It eliminates its already viable entry and exit to and from downtown and the Market, which will otherwise be funneled onto already crowded streets. Really, they don’t have the money, to minimally alter the existing structures? How about blocking them off until someone else finds it. Seattle, you’ll never figure out how to deal with transportation.

Filling the tunnel with rubble seems like a bad idea. Should the walls or roof of the tunnel require some maintenance (it does support Battery Street), DOT would have to dig a bunch of rubble out to regain access.

11

Remember those morons who wanted to tear down the Viaduct and replace it with nothing?

Wash-DOT are such weenies. They blow stuff up in Omaha all the time. When they blew up the old Masonic Temple, it was within 20’ of a church that had some irreplaceable stained glass windows. They just slapped up some plywood and everything was fine.

I'd use the concrete to fill up the cesspool that is Mar-a-Lago and Trumpty Dumpty's filthy mouth.
