Alex seems to be reasonable...that would be a change for the city council.

3

Alex Pedersen sucks on the issues and is not a suitable replacement for Rob Johnson, who really ought to be running for another term.

Alex Pedersen sucks on transit investment:
-- Opposed Sound Transit 3
-- Opposed Move Seattle (too much for bike lanes for him)
-- Opposes City Center Connector

Alex Pedersen is an anti-density NIMBY:
-- Endorsed longtime anti-density activist Bill Bradburd (over council incumbent Lorena Gonzalez)
-- Opposes HALA; he called it “former Mayor Ed Murray’s backroom deal for real estate developer upzones”
-- Opposed density for U District
-- Supports impact fees on developers who add density to neighborhoods (taxing new housing)

Alex Pedersen is a boring NIMBY mossback. HUD is a fucking shitshow (ask anyone that works directly with it) and there is nothing at all impressive about working for it; working with HUD is actually impressive.

@3, thanks for sharing this. Based on just this Slog post, you'd get the mistaken impression this guy was perfectly reasonable.

5

@3 Thanks for that. I'll be sure to send him some of my hard earned democracy dollars.

6

Breath of fresh air. Someone with a nuts and bolts grasp of how to git stuff done within the realm of control. Where! How! can I give him all my vouchers and campaign donations?

7

I live in District 4. In Wallingford. I'm not sure Alex Pedersen has heard of it, since it's not really in "Northeast Seattle." It's pretty clear Pedersen is running for Mayor of Laurelhurst. Fuck this guy.

10

Yeah, deleting the 4 To Explore newsletters was sketchy.

In them you can clearly see his bias against bicycles. Cars (and single-family residences) are king in his world.

11

I'm really happy Alex Pedersen is running. He's smart and values the residents of District four over big, corporate interests. He has my vote.

12

Wow! A candidate presented in his own words! I really think Mr. Peterson is on to something with his "restoring trust." City Hall no longer listens. Instead, it shapes public input with its special interest cronies to justify the policies it is pursuing. If independent citizens speak up, their voices should not be mis-construed as support. Hopefully we can get beyond the racist-NIMBY-privilege bully labeling being witnessed in these comments to discuss in this campaign how citizen input is meaningfully registered by City Hall. I'm liking Mr. Peterson's ideas.

13

@3: But Rob Johnson isn’t running, now is he?

Opposes Central City Connector? Good. Opposes density within neighborhoods? Good. (Density belongs where transit and jobs are.)

Opposed ST3? Opposed Move Seattle levy? Who cares, he lost. Same with bike lanes.

Oh, and how was his description of HALA wrong?

Try harder next time.

14

@13, you don't think the University District has jobs?! The neighborhood that's home of the University of Washington? You don't think the University District has transit??!

Alex Pedersen himself opposed ST3 and Move Seattle... what's your point about losing? You're talking about Bill Bradburd? Alex Pedersen is running today. I wouldn't trust Alex with ST4 or the next local mobility levy on the basis of his past record.

Hear it loud and clear:
If you are a single-family zoning apologist/NIMBY/lesser-Seattle-mossback and hate transit, Alex Pedersen is your candidate, like Bill Bradburd was.

If you understand that we need as much new housing as we have new jobs, YIMBY, and love transit, then move on, because Alex Pedersen does not represent your values and does not deserve your vote.

Nathalie Graham — Re: "*I assume this is industry jargon."

Yes, "making deals pencil" is pretty much universal in the construction industry for "the financial estimates make the project look feasible (i.e., won't lose money)." It applies to both profit and non-profit (and mixed) housing developments.

"Try is out..." — Where do you think those jobs come from, thin air? Do you think the creators of those jobs (think Amazon) should help pay for the housing and transit needed to support those jobs? How about the impacts of extremely rapid growth: who do you think "pays" for the physical and economic displacement that occurs?

It's easy to spew about NIMBYs. It's harder to provide analyses that lead to solutions that minimize the harm caused by neoliberal economics.

16

@14: How was his description of HALA wrong?

(You might want to try facts instead of shouted invective, too.)

17

Nathalie--don't blame traffic, you are traffic. Leave for work earlier. Love.

18

We have a neoliberal city government. If that doesn’t change we will continue to benefit the richest people on the planet and grind most people into the ground. He thinks our neoliberal mayor is interested in change that would disrupt the status quo? Hardly, she has been tightening the screws on people without decent shelter and increasing her police state activities. She was heavily financed by Amazon etc.

19

@18: You’re really feeling great about having joined the lynch-mob to run Mayor Murray out of office, I see.

(Why do your actions always have consequences?!? It’s SO unfair!!!)

20

I’m thrilled Alex Pedersen is running. He has been a great neighbor to my community—which is a low income neighborhood that is pretty close to his back yard. Enough with the blanket labels, let’s deal in real life. Alex has been an advocate for affordable housing, has a history of advocating for community policing, and is one of the ONLY people in this city who cared enough about our low income community of color to bring attention to the environmental issues related to improper remediation of radioactive materials left by the Navy —a hazard that disproportionately affected low income poc in District 4. As far as bikes, I appreciate Alex recognizing that single mothers are not commuting to work, hauling our kids around, or grocery shopping on our ten speeds. I love bikes, but I’m glad Pedersen addressed how they do not meet everyone’s transportation needs.

21

Alex Pedersen won't get my vote until he opposes the hobo jungles and the stupid bike lanes.

Jobless renters like this "@Try it out for free" head case need to get help.
