I'm sure the officer feared for his life and that's why he had to run down the pedestrian. Or it was the victim's fault for not crossing fast enough or something.

ā€œHe [McNerthney] was also looking into whether the case was a statutory referral.ā€

As if there’s any way SPD would refer a case against one of their own unless they absolutely had to.

The average driver can hit a pedestrian and get away with it by simply claiming ā€˜I didn’t see them’ - if not for the media attention this case would have already been written off, and as it stands there’s virtually no chance the officer will be held truly accountable.

I'm sure the officer feared for his life as he drove too fast, the adrenalin pumping into his body, making his heart race must go faster must fight oops killed someone don't stop don't tell them you ignored all your training ...

I've travelled the world. You keep you head on a swivel in some regions. I was almost mugged on my own street near Tokyo and ironically it was the local Yakuza hanging outside a soap bar for prostitution who saved me. I lived on that street thus protected.

In Seattle we should have a much higher bar and most of us treat it that way. Going 74 mph downtown even with lights and sirens is reckless. Perhaps not criminal.

And @5 yes we should be acutely keen to anti Asian violence especially after Trump essentially condoned it.
