We would be lost without Brian Callanan of City Inside/Out cheerfully grilling our local elected officials.

Every time there's a budget crunch they take a meat axe to The Seattle Channel. My prediction is that there'll be some negotiations, they'll cut a few low-level admin or tech types, and it will continue on.
Wait, is this shutting off broadcasts/livestream to council proceedings? Or ending creation of original content. For “transparency” in government, the former IS a huge problem.
@1 agree. For all TS hand wringing about the budget Kevin Schofield published a much more in depth and even handed look at the state of the city: https://www.postalley.org/2024/09/26/mayor-harrells-new-budget-and-some-windfall-revenue-provoke-big-questions/
Schofield notes the amount originally forecasted by the council for affordable housing via jump start is fully funded. The beef is over the additional unforseen revenue it has generated so the claim the mayor is killing affordable housing is false. There is also this note
"Harrell did one other smart thing: he left some money lying around for the Council to spend on its own priorities. In the General Fund, he proposes a 2025 budget that leaves about $52 million unspent"
That seems enough for Nelson and the council to save Seattle Channel.
The mayor's is tinkering with the budget, no leadership.
Our City Council needs to take this opportunity to reduce the size, scope, and cost of city government. We don't need 2 x 12 Human Resources in city government.
For every 1k city employees the city council gets rid of, it will bring in $150 million (at least) to spend on solving problems. At least 3k city employees needs to go, that's $450 million. Go big Sara et all. The bigger the better.
