I’d love to hear some specifics for how she will balance needs of the unhoused against impacts to the greater community, for all she’s learned/wrote about where progressives went wrong.
"Seattle now has twice as many unsheltered homeless people as New York City"
Blatantly incorrect.
In Seattle, there are approximately 16,385 individuals experiencing homelessness on any given night.
In New York City, the number is significantly higher, with over 350,000 people estimated to be without homes, including those in shelters, unsheltered, or temporarily doubled-up.
@2: PER CAPITA, Seattle's homelessness rate is substantially higher than that of NYC. And I'd love to know where you got that 350K number.
That said Ms. Wilson really needs to stop posing for photos that make it look like she's running for the mayor of the Beatitudes. A recurring issue in our attempt to find a functional mayor is the false choice between pious, ineffective progressive wonks and guys like Bruce, who is just a Chamber of Commerce Republican.
@6: You're right! I was surprised. Here's a take by Copilot (AI - so shoot me):
Q: Which U.S. cities have the highest homeless rate per capita?
A: Cities with the highest homelessness rates per capita in the U.S. often face challenges like high housing costs, lack of affordable housing, and economic disparities. Based on recent data, some cities with notably high rates include:
Los Angeles, California: Known for its large unsheltered homeless population.
San Francisco, California: Faces significant homelessness due to high housing costs.
Seattle, Washington: Struggles with a growing homeless population despite efforts to address the issue.
Honolulu, Hawaii: High living costs contribute to homelessness rates.
New York City, New York: While it has a large homeless population, its per capita rate is lower than some smaller cities.
2: UNSHELTERED! Seattle has more unsheltered homeless than NYC -- not per capita, but in terms of absolute numbers. NYC has had a law (consent decree) in place since 1980 requiring the city to provide shelter.
We're not impressed. Kshama Sawant got a (desperately, desperately needed) raise for essential workers without any willingness to form "coalitions" with the biggest assholes on the block. None of the prog pols promoted by TS recently are ready to stand in Ms. Sawant's shoes, IMO.
I've been looking for an alternative to Harrell, but she's not it. If you start with "no encampments" and "no drug use on city streets", you've got my vote.
18 Phoebe in Wallingford: I said "Seattle has more unsheltered homeless than NYC -- not per capita, but in terms of absolute numbers" and provided a recent reference for the figure of twice as many ( https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/the-new-report-on-homelessness-shows-a-catastrophe-for-wa/ ). I added no words that were not in the article, but thought some specific clarification might help with some folks refusal to believe facts that they disagree with and/or can't take the time to Google.
Obviously my multiple posts were needed, yet still failed to aid in some folks reading comprehension!

We've tried socialism in Seattle (Last City Council) and it resulted in skyrocketing crime, homelessness, hate crimes, human suffering, drug trafficking, human trafficking, combined with increasing cost of living and rents.
@17: When we voters of Washington state enacted a higher minimum wage in 1998 (I-688), we did not allow employers to take a ‘tip credit’: employers could not pay lower wages if employees received tips.
When we voters of Washington state enacted a higher minimum wage in 2016 (I-1433), we again did not allow employers a ‘tip credit,’ but we went in the opposite direction: we required all tips to be passed along to workers.
Sawant’s minimum wage allowed for a tip credit.
Why could she not accomplish what we voters had so easily done?
I’m beyond impressed by Katie Wilson’s vision and track record of actually getting stuff done. Her leadership in raising the minimum wage, fighting for progressive revenue, and winning real policy battles shows she’s more than ready to take on the role of mayor. I appreciate her focus on coalition-building while staying bold on housing, transit, and homelessness. Seattle needs that kind of leadership.
After reading this, I found her website by googling her name and I sent her $10 so she can qualify for democracy vouchers. I've seen her name around, and I'll do my research, but I'm pretty sure she has my vote. Good luck, Wilson.
Upon analyzing the Opposition paid Orcs, their whole propaganda is hinging on making us believe that we’re living in a “bad place” when ironically the majority of these trolls migrated from republican areas 🤣🤣🤣🤣😤🦍 🦍🦍🦍

I am assuming that Katie Wilson is accepting Democracy Vouchers

LOL NO
We're going to make "progressive" a slur, just like we did with "SJW" and "woke".

Well at least the various hit pieces The Stranger has been posting about Harrell make sense now.
How is “social housing” different than the Seattle Housing Authority?
@6: Here you go:

(Bullet point 2 under 'The Basic Facts')
Fuck Sawant.
@6 Yes, but with photos of Katie Wilson like that, what will I have to think about to delay ejaculation?

@13, 14, 15 - Reading comprehension is indeed made easier by multiple posts of the same information. Thanks!

@8 SHA, like other public housing authorities, only houses the poor. Social housing is open to everyone.

Thank you CKathes dear.
So it's like a well-kept version of a rent-controlled apartment building that is owned by the city?
I really wonder which city has more homeless, Seattle or NYC? Nobody, including The Seattle Times, seems to give a consistent answer.
