"Advocates worried gay or trans kids in homophobic households might stay silent if there was even a ghost of a chance their parents could find out."
Parents are worried that a great many elementary and middle school teachers are on a quest to unduly influence childhood development with proponents of gender ideology, along with the peer affects of social contagion, and accelerated diagnosis of gender dysphoria put kids at risk of confusion, depression, especially if those kids are effeminate boys or tomboy girls, autistic, or victims of sexual abuse.
"A ban on trans women playing sports"
"Despite what Republicans say, putting trans girls and cis girls in the same league is not like a game of rock paper scissors where the trans girl always wins."
No, they don't say that. But they do say that biological males have a systemic advantage even after hormone therapies and girls and women should not be undressing in front of pre-op trans women. This is a view shared by trans women themselves, including Blair White, Alexis Blake, and Caitlyn Jenner.
Sounds like Heywood's quite the innovator. Back in the '90s, anti-LGBTQ+ bigots from out of state filed several ballot initiatives, each to de-humanize gays from our legal system. We citizens formed Hands Off Washington, and defeated all of these initiatives in their signature-gathering stages, which was a first. Later, failed watch salesman Tim Eyman seized upon bogus initiatives as a money-making scam, bilking his sponsors, including his sugar daddy, Michael Dunmire, for quite a lot of money before a) Dunmire died, and b) the state sued Eyman for running a kickback scheme. Heywood has combined the last filthy residue of anti-LGBTQ+ bigotry, against the "T" in that acronym, with Eyman's initiatives-as-scam bogus trade. Here's hoping Heywood's lying, theft, and fraud get caught a lot sooner!
@1: The number of children who could suffer physical abuse at home from declaring non-cis and/or non-heterosexuality far exceeds the number of parents who have the excruciatingly tender sensibilities you've so touchingly described, so we'll keep things as they now are. Thanks for playing!
Last April Washington State Athletics Association came in one vote shy of the 60% majority needed to restrict the gender identified from the gendered in girls sports. This would have been contrary to state law, so unlikely to have had an immediate impact other than welcome to lawsuit city. It does however go a long way to showing where the public sentiment is on this issue.
Both Obama's Dear colleague letter from the Department of Education and Biden executive order on the matter both used "gender identity" as the clarifying language to shoe horn the trans idenified in to Title IX rights. I do think its possible that trans student can have safe and secure acess to education while not violating the Title IX rights of girls.
@3: If you'd ever expressed interest in any actual facts, dear, then I might've bothered finding sources for my statement. But you haven't, so I won't. Instead, I'll follow your example of anecdotal statements @1:
When our child arrived home from kindergarten asking, "Is it possible to be half-boy, half-girl?", my spouse and I both immediately answered it was, and thanked our child for asking the question. (It seems a classmate had rejected binary application, with no teacher prompting at all.)
@6: Clever out, but still a gotcha. Anecdotes aside, parents of today are more accepting and less homophobic than parents of yesteryear in the last century.
Oh, and don't call me or anyone dear. Only Catalina has that license.
FYI, at most modern high schools there are private changing areas in one unified locker room spaces (turns out kids in general don’t like being nude in front of one another - regardless of gender / gender identity). As a parent I find this far superior.
I too am confident that liberals will have no issues either batting these aside or defanging their worst aspects. One aside, it would be interesting to see a liberal organization use the cover of the property tax restrictions to introduce an income tax (even starting with a flat tax, which is constitutional, would be better than continuing our dependence on property and sales tax).
Excellent news, now I am willing to sign any petition that ends Washington State's Woke agenda and forces leftists out of power. I want to see more investigations of leftist legislators, judges, the governor, the AG, and the corrupt bureaucrats in Olympia. Make DEI, Woke, and leftist politics things that are buried forever in a hazmat site at Hanford. Toxic for 100,000 years.

@2: As if such a quantification, as you pull from thin air, is based in reality.
@3: When you've lost @tensorna, you've lost.

Many thanks for covering these issues now, while they're still in the signature-gathering phase.
