I remember being introduced to picton by bartender dina taylor at the american hotel and was surprised that this guy who had parties all the time was sitting alone in a big booth-style alcove able to hold about 6 people. I never spoke with him , but always remember last call at the hotel 'party at the pig farm , you cant stay here ' if that hotel ( now torn) down was not combed for evidence than the police never did their job completely at least exhibit b.the bar was a biker bar and cocaine use was rampant.. after it closed they all went over to the waterfront corral .
I never wanted to go to any of the party's just because the crowd got ' stupid' enough by 10 pm that it would only get worse by 3-4 am , which i guess it did!

When in Vancouver , B.C. ; I stop over at the Astoria Pub and the Balmoral pub (both are cheap HRO's w/ pubs downstairs/very common up there)on E. Hasting St...The middle class or what passes has taken to these places now....urban hipsters..Lots of ambience and I would recommend it for a weekend stay....Try the Hotel Cecil on Granville...'wild' and has a show bar too...

This is a beautifully written journey into darkness unimaginable. One of the best I've seen.

I do think that it isn't really fair to presume that the humdrum quotidian activity of nearby suburbanites equates with indifference (as statednear the end).

I would bet that many of these people feel deeply haunted by the proximity of the Death Farm. To continue with one's life in the place one lives is not the same as not caring. Whether we live next door or In Seattle or a thousand miles away from the scene of the horrors we must both go on living but not forgetting. There is not reason to assume because we all cut our lawns sometimes that we don't care about those women. But, again, a fine and predominantly respectful article, Charles. I'll be bookmarking The Stranger.

Why isn't more being done to look into the Hell's Angels connection??

They own the drug / sex trade in Vancouver / BC, were friendly with Rob's brother Dave, were regulars at Piggy's Palace, ran drugs out of the American and the Ivanhoe, have brutally enforced repayment of drug debts through torture etc, even killing female addicts that owe money by throwing them out of the windows of DES hotels...DNA from one of the victims was also found at a crack-house in Surrey, overseen by HA enforcers...maybe the victims were 'delivered' to the farm because of drug debts...if you want more info on these 'strange ' links check out the 'gangstersout' blog...

Ever wonder about those decapitated human feet that were floating ashore off the west coast of BC? You know, the ones that the police just couldn't for the life of them figure out where they were coming from? Ever consider the fact that they started showing up after Pickton was incarcerated? And does anyone remember the leak in his investigation early on that high-ranking politicians, police, etc., were known to frequent his property while all these murders were going on?

Can anyone else make the connection that I do?

Are we to assume Robert Pickton acted alone? Is he the only one responsible for the crimes committed to these women?

It's "DTES" not "DES"

Please wait...
