Why Is Gary Randall Really Opposing Gay Rights?

Comments

1
Excellent write-up! I'm glad the truth about Gary is finally getting out there.
2
wait - really? This is your report? That was your conclusion? I have no doubts that this guy is a serious jerk-off. But making incredibly vague, unverifiable and unfounded claims about a political activist is not a proof.
3
Parasite pastor - is there any other kind?
4
Dominic, how the hell do I send you an email? I can't find one on this site?
5
@ Jack Ryan: It's dominic@thestranger.com

6
Nice piece. And the guy is a dipshit. :)
7
Wait, so why are we not supporting this guy with every fiber of our being? I think it's a win-win; he gets rich, we get money from opponents of gay marriage to go down the drain.
8
My thoughts exactly gabjoh, this guy's awesome. Makes me want to start my own 'Defense of Marriage' foundation.
9
It's even better that the guy's age is "69".
10
I know this is somewhat off-topic but why doesn't Washington have gay marriage? It seems to me like one of the most liberal states out there and if 66% of voters support marriage equality why hasn't it gone the way of Massachusetts( where I live), Vermont, Conneticuit and Iowa. I mean,Iowa for heaven's sakes. It just doesn't make any sense to me.
11
I'm not sure I buy that 66% of us are in favor of gay marriage. Seattle is liberal, but let's not forget that half of Washington is made up of conservative suburbian republicans. We very nearly voted in Dino Rossi. Twice. The day that legalized gay marriage is a reality in Washington state will be the best day of my life, but unfortunatly there are too many followers of bigoted, greedy, "religious" snakes like this guy. I think we all have to be very patient.
12
@queerconfused: because five of our nine elected supreme court judges are worthless chickenshits.
13
When our supreme court said that the state DOMA was constitutional it meant the legislature would have to both rescind DOMA and change the pre-existing RCW defining it as a man and wife.

Takes a bit more bravery than politicians naturally have. I predict it won't happen until there is a winning voter initiative on the issue.
14
You should have asked him why he's opposed to "Marriage Equality". THAT would have been the far more interesting question. Given the fact that no state has passed a "Gay Marriage" law, nor has any state Supreme Court opened "Gay Marriage" to all state citizens.

qyeerconfused, WA does not have civil marriage equality because two things have taken place here. One the law makers defined civil marriage as one man one woman. And the Supreme Court of WA said marriage is for the purpose of making babies and since Gay citizens don't as a rule make babies they there for can not get married.
15
If they want an initiative, they need signatures. What about sending a couple dozen people to counter their signature gatherers at every time and location they try to gather signatures? Annoy the hell out of them and make the counterargument to the people they stop right then and there. That way we don't have to wait for an initiative to get on the ballot and more money starts to pour in from the confident right wing bastards.
16
Christians should not ever be supporting fear and scapegoating. Apparently it is making Gary a lot of money, unfortunately. Thank you for getting this information out there. The Truth Wins Out. Yes that was tongue in cheek, for those that got it. ;-)
17
At the moment, I don't want to marry my girlfriend, she's annoying the hell out of me.
18
Keep up the good work Gary!
19
@queerconfused, you're mis-reading the numbers. The latest poll shows that 37% of voters support marriage equality and 29% support full legal equality except use of the "m" word. Thus, 66% of voters support what we're getting with the DP Expansion Bill, or better.

Glyph of aspects: taking into account the second CD after COH 6 Glyph of income greatly reduced, SO, star carved into the sacred text, X after the burst on 2300 +, 965 of the mana consumption is slightly higher than eve isk.
21
What a fantastic account of reality. This man clearly is the face of evil.
22
Iowa has gay marriage, California doesn't. I don't think "liberal" has anything to do with it. Go figure.
23
Iowa is pretty liberal. I think it is because of a quadrennial parade of ambitious narcissists telling all of them that government can solve all their problems.
24
If LGBT's want to indulge in the masochistic experience of modern marriage- let em!!
They too should be free to enjoy the conubial bliss of losing half their assets and income to some neurotic, embittered soul just because they supported them financially in exchange for infrequent, grudgingly, ill performed sexual favors and domestic chores.
25
I do not know a single person in a circle of dozens of gay men who want to marry.

The marriage thing is a combo of up scale middle class expectations that for some do not change after coming out, or not coming out - and conformity.

I think it is important in the long run to have equality, but, no rush to marry for many gay men.

Above, some of us have no desire for a court fight over the dog and the rocking chair.

I wonder who has the best sex, married or just living together?

26
Thanks for this expose' on Mr. Randall. Honestly, I never even heard of him before seeing the story on SGN's front page this past weekend. I guess I have much to learn about the movers and shakers in this state (whether I like them or not), because they still wield power and influence that could affect my life and that of many others as well.
27
@ all the God-hating, atheistic, pagan whatever you like to call yourselves: Christianity is NOT the problem. The problem is how some people live their Christianity and how people do or don't interpret the Bible. I'm a Christian man who happens to be gay. Yet, even I believed for most of my life, til late in my 30s, that homosexuality was wrong and that I needed to be a good, faithful hetero to be pleasing to God and acceptable to my friends & peers. I eventually realized this is not true. But I have not stopped believing in Jesus Christ or the Bible. I just happen to have a radically different view on things than I did, say, 10+ yrs ago. And in my opinion, without knowing anything about this Randall guy before now, I'd say that he gives Christianity a bad name and causes others to despise Christ and Christians. But that's ok cuz the God I believe in and serve is more than capable to handle all of us and still love us. And He is also more than capable of overcoming the doubts and criticisms of those who don't believe. So please stop bashing Randall simply because he's a Christian, and PLEASE stop lumping all Christians in the same boiling pot. We are NOT all the same. (FYI: some of your own favorite liberal pols - including our wonderful President Obama - also identify as born-again, church-going Christians, but with a much different perspective on life than this guy has!)
28
@ queerconfused. All of the states you mentioned which have the freedom to marry initially got it through a state supreme court ruling, even if it was later reinforced through other means. WA state supreme court has already ruled against the freedom to marry, so we need to pursue it here through other means
29
If I beat this goob to filing the paperwork for a referendum, wouldn't that shut him out of filing? Or would the state allow multiple groups to seek a referendum on the same law?

Let's say that the state allows only one referendum on the law at a time. If was first to the punch, and then I then made absolutely no effort to gather any signatures at all, would the referendum fail to qualify for the November ballot and therefore go away automatically as of July?

1. Government ALLOWS its citizens to vote AGAINST a minority's due civil rights.

2. Without these rights, horrible suffering often happens, and why not? Everyone else seems to need these rights civil rights, so why NOT us?

3. So now a vote leads DIRECTLY to suffering. To OUR suffering.

So when is it "fighting hate with hate" and when is it SELF-DEFENSE? Is it COUNTER-terrorism?
31
PS - Am I the only one in WA state who wants to do MUCH MORE than just march/petition/donate if our state experiences a PROP-8-type DEBACLE? Civil Disobedience? Express JUSTIFIED anger in the streets? A QUEER REVOLUTION, where we actually MEAN IT when we say, "We're not going to take it anymore"?

Our families DO NOT deserve this ABUSE - this public vote "for" or "against" our family's safety and security - PERIOD. THIS is esp. EVIL, when you look into a child's face; a child with gay or lesbian parents.
32
why dont you guys wear the correct label of "Sodomite" and be honest about your goals and agenda ? In previous civilizations you sided with the "child sacrificers" under a "Religious label" but this time you and the babykillers do not, yet you have the same goals as in the days of Babylon and other times in history. Your attacks against the traditional Family by using the Christian Institution of Marriage-began by God-for purely financial gain is an Abomination , as is your Lifestyle--Yet I do not worry as God will cast all of you into Tartarus(The Lake of Fire) along with the author of your abominable lifestyle--Satan-your Father of Iniquity.Your time is short to Repent and come to Jesus Christ -Lord and Savior--before the Rapture !!! JRandolf
33
SODOMITES SHOULD NOT BE WELCOME IN OUR SOCIETY-ACCESS TO OUR CHILDREN-AND WE ARE TIRED OF LAWMAKERS WHO CATER TO THEM WITH BILLS CONTRARY TO THE BELIEFS OF 97% OF THE POPULATION OUT OF FEAR !WITHOUT A VOTE OF ' WE THE PEOPLE'-WHY ARE THEY SCARED OF A VOTE ? IT IS THE DEMOCRATIC WAY AFTER ALL ? WE DO NOT WANT AMERICA TO BECOME ANOTHER SODOM OR TO BE JUDGED BY GOD !!!THEY CAN RECEIVE ALL OF THE RIGHTS THEY FALSELY CLAIM THROUGH CIVIL UNIONS- "MARRIAGE IS A CHRISTIAN INSTITUTION " BEGAN BY GOD AND THE ANSWER IS "NO"--THE RESULT WILL BE ONE THAT NOONE WILL LIKE I AM SURE !!!
34
@ the two high-school dropouts above me:

1) Marriage might be a Christian institution, but it is not an *exclusively* Christian institution. The Chinese are not Christian, and have had marriage for longer than Christianity has been around.

2) We have separation of church and state in the U.S. Therefore if marriage were indeed a Christian institution as you claim, then such an institution could not be formally recognized by the state.

And recon, especially: dude, the capslock key IS RIGHT FUCKING THERE. Turn it off already. Typing in all-caps makes you seem even more like a moron.

As an aside, I attended church under Gary Randall in Portland when I was a kid (an AOG church he later gutted and sold to the Baptists up the street to help fund his personal following). The guy is phony from his Italian leather shoes to the top of his turtle-waxed head.

35
Can I just say what a relief to find someone who actually knows what theyre talking about on the internet. You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe youre not more popular because you definitely have the gift... how to write a resume
36
@33 .... you really are an idiot, learn how to learn, please, you embarrass our species.

To the article, well, it seems that in this instance democracy is working, since a majority disagree with the pastor in this case (good, bad, to me it's neither). The problem is that you can't go against the majority, even in something like this, otherwise you take the power of democracy away. The easiest way to combat such idiotic beliefs is with education, as we can see it's working as a few decades ago most people across the country would have sided with the idiotic pastor just because, but now people see his lack of knowledge and many choose to think on their own. The thinking on their own they sometimes still come to an opposing view to yours, but that's the irony of education, unless there is hard fact to counter an idea, it won't stop being popular, just less popular if people choose to follow a very simple "live and let live" rule.
37
@32 and @33: You pretend to care about God's immutable and almighty word as presented to us in the Holy Bible, yet I would wager all the wealth of Solomon that you FLOUT God's clear instructions in Deuteronomy 22:11 and daily commit ABOMINATIONS UNTO THE LORD every time you dress in the morning. God is not interested in that pathetic "mistranslation" excuse or your pastor's ignorance of Almighty God's explicit commandments unto mankind. Repent, and submit to His rule, or YOU WILL BE JUDGED AND CAST INTO THE PIT OF HELLFIRE.
38
Also, Sodomite's cannot exist today, Sodom was destroyed, remember?

Please wait...
