"It's a placeholder impersonating a place," she said over e-mail. "It's journalism without journalists. It's a sham, but a sham with traffic. Oh, brave new world."
The same could unfortunately be said of the Stranger's news room.
I've given up on the PI completely. There are local news stories in there to be sure, but good luck finding them buried among all the local sports scores. Aren't those supposed to have their own section? And every individual set of numbers drawn in the lottery gets its own headline. What purpose could that possibly serve, other than some sort of brain-dead "search engine optimization?" Whatever the cause, the extraordinary typorrhea renders the whole site useless.
@5. some people like sports. you know, going outside, being active. not sitting at a keyboard all day...
@eli. i think we all expect a little more from you (full disclosure, you are my favorite writer on this site). two of your sources totally disagree with your heavy-handed thesis, but you make it still. i don't care for hearst any more than the next guy, but investigate west does excellent work. i also don't frequent seattlepi.com, but i just checked on there, and in 2 minutes found a half dozen stories digging deeper than this one. if the site is going through trouble, report it, but this is the journalistic equivalent of middle school trash talk.
