The Biggest Winner in Last Week's Tunnel Vote? Mayor Mike McGinn!

Comments

1
The Times and ColaBaggers are blowing their wad with their epic hate-on for McGinn. Eventually voters will get over 2009 and begin asking why the Times and others haven't.
2
There's plenty of time for him, if he can quit listening to people who want him to keep tilting at windmills.
3
"But that part of the conversation simply got lost within the noise of the larger debate."

Sorry, but it didn't get lost, he never made the argument. He's rightly seen as someone without the ability to develop and implement a vision for the future (saying "uh, transit!" is not vision), and without the ability to manage the needs of the present. Other than that, he's perfect.
4
War is peace.
5
You know that the $$ for this project could not have been redirected to transit. To keep repeating this misinformation is ridiculous.
6
Yes, by losing this one McGinn freed himself from the noose he'd put around his own neck. However, a) the pro-tunnel campaign was built around equating Mayor McGinn to Tim Eyman, a deadly connection that will likely stick, and b) people have not forgotten McGinn's campaign pledge/lie to support the tunnel, a pledge/lie which likely won him the election. The result is that McGinn looks not only like a loser, but a dishonest loser. Any smart non-McGinn will exploit these flaws next election and ride them to victory.
7
Is he going to move on to blocking the SR-520 project, now?
8
C'mon, Spin Dr Goldy. Don't tie up band width with your ridiculous revisionist apology. I much preferred the Urban Islands argument in November 2004 after the Bush victory.
9
Why admit the truth when you can spin?!

11
@4: If you are stupid enough to believe that, you never served time in the U.S. military, doofus!
12
Fucking A Goldy you are so fucking awesome I can't fucking believe it! What the fuck! Fuck yeah! I don't fucking know why the fucks who invented english went to the fucking trouble to invent any fucking words other that fuck. What the fuck, what the fuckity fuck were they fucking thinking! What a bunch of fucking fuck ass pricks. And by the way you fuck, thanks for giving us our fill of fucks today! You are a great fucking writer and a fuck of a great mind!
13
"McGinn promised to fight the tunnel. He did that. He lost. There's no disgrace in that."

Actually, he promised to do the exact opposite. Not sure how it works in your world, but when someone does the exact opposite of what they promise, they prove themselves to be a liar. Plenty of disgrace in that.
14
@11

Sorry that went over your head.

BTW I served in the US Army from 1975 - 1978.
15
i really wanted to post last time but its still a bit relevant on this one:

fuck you all for not voting/signing the tax initiative petition on/for the last major election. you hate the tunnel, then ya couldve made the people that do want it, pay for it. you dont want to pay taxes to dance, then you could've forced those that should be paying the lionshare of the taxes to keep the city running for their own profits, pay more taxes. im sorry, its not your fault, you were afraid....(oh shit im going into v for vendetta mode). sigh. its so much easier when you have a masked vigilante showing you what to do.
16
@4 & @14: Spicy McHaggis: Sorry, man, my bust for misunderstanding your----sense of humor? Sarcasm? Irony?
Nonetheless, good job, fellow veteran, for being among us who have proudly served and who are currently serving our country.
As a veteran, however, I believe that war is hell, and definitely not peace.

BTW: I served in the U.S. Navy from 1989-1993.
17
@4 & @14: Sorry I misunderstood.

Good job for being a veteran; I am too.
God bless everyone who has proudly served and is currently serving our country.
But as a veteran, I believe that war is hell and definitely not peace.

BTW: I served in the U.S. Navy from 1989-1993.
18
Awwwwwww, !@&*

Sorry about the duplicate post.
19
@17 so say we all. lock and load, paysan.
20
@17: So where in what branch did you serve?
I'm just curious.
21
I meant @19: where and in which branch did you serve?
No sarcasm: I'm just curious.
22
@12 if "fuck" appearing once and "godfuckingawful" appearing once equal an f-bomb to you, clearly, your sensibilities are far too delicate to be reading this. You should go chew on some politically correct Times reports, combed over to be exemplary in terms of tact, dignity, and utter tedium(slash)boredom.
23
It's not just the tunnel.

McGinn has put himself on the side of downtown's drug dealers and derelicts. Add to that the parking rates, and anyone who works in a retail or restaurant establishment downtown knows that McGinn is their sworn enemy.

McGinn is popular with the bicyclistas, but guess what? There are a whole lot more drivers here, and we vote. Just wait. Oh, do we ever vote.

And then there are the bars. Hipsters, you need to get out and around the city. For all its pretenses, Seattle is still predominantly a city of staid, single-family, introverted Norwegians and other Europeans. We're the ones who vote and who pay the bills here, and we're not itching to keep your nightclubs open until 4 in the morning.

McGinn, your best bet is to quietly disappear. Leave a resignation letter on your desk when you go.
24
@23: "McGinn has put himself on the side of downtown's drug dealers and derelicts"

Wanting better for the homeless has nothing to do with drug dealing.
25
I doubt you would want to review this article again, say...when the tunnel is supposed to be half finished. Then, you may decide to take a different slant.
Maybe you should respect the Mayor. After all, you were the ones helping to elect him. Just saying.
You always seem to rag on anyone who doesn't follow your sometimes blurred vision of Seattle and the ones who aren't just like you. Thought you guys were so hip and with it?

@21 Canadian Armed Forces, Army, had two MOCs over 7 years, Sgt for the last four, my next door neighbor did pretty much the same thing, he was black fwiw.
28
@24 "Wanting better for the homeless has nothing to do with drug dealing."

It doesn't do the homeless one bit of good to take the side of derelict panhandlers downtown, or to let drug enforcement go to nothing there. Having people demand your spare change and offer to sell you weed and crack and your way to and from a restaurant only makes you want to stay away.

Well, maybe not you. Mayhe that's why you're downtown to begin with?
29
@27: Cool. I was a supply grunt for the Navy SEALs.

Please wait...
