Olympia Considers Fixes to Legalization Rules

It's a shitty law, it wasn't written with the citizens interests in mind. It was written as a taxing authority, and only big companies are going to be able to play as it is. It's a sin tax. So pot is wrong/illegal until taxes are paid on it?, unfortunately that's the way it was written, the states massive taxing of the product lets the state siphon off all of the profits to be made, with none of the overhead.
Pot should be legal to grow or possess for anyone over 18.
It should be governed by the same laws as alcohol
i.e. some of my friends brew beer, and are free to do so as they please, they can share it, but not sell it.
Want to take the criminal element out of weed? Make it ubiquitous. Take the criminality out of it, make it so that getting high or not is no big deal. So three of your neighbors are growing?, so what.
I'm ok with taxing and regulating weed as a commercial product, I think the tax is too high (25% every-time it changes hands, AND an additional local sales tax (currently the highest in the nation at 9.9%)to the end user), republicans?, libertarians?, haven't heard a peep out of them about job killing taxes and regulations on this one (funny how they pick and choose absolutes).

Tax-the-absolute-shit out of Pot to pay for all the social problems that will stem from legalizing it.

Tax modifies behaviors.

I seem to recall another attempt at a Stamp Tax Act in US history... can we bring back tars and feathers?

A huge issue with I-502 is that it really didn't have much to say about 'how this is going to happen' The LCB was to write some rules, etc. The idea that taxes will be earmarked for social services and substance abuse prevention/intervention/treatment/recovery is laughable, as every other set-aside for that purpose has been raided or eliminated.

Look at the tax on soda as a perfect example of what is going to happen. And because of the rollbacks in prevention services to organizations like the WA state Family Policy Council (nothing to do with the weirdo religious org of a similar name) or Community Mobilization we are already seeing increases in expensive problem behaviors that are going to cost the state hundreds of millions in the coming decades.

This is why we can't have nice things.

Go ahead and tax it more, the dude I get it from has little to no chance of stopping his sales and if pot activists were worried about the price before lawmakers get their say I have no question even I'd start having to give a fuck about the cost associated with it. Granted, I'm totally willing to pay something as high as $300 for an ounce of killer weed when others might not care for that price, but I go into this with the understanding that we're finally paying the correct price for the economic activity I want the most. You want to make that a $400 ounce? Consider me part of the underground weed railroad. I don't really care either way, but I expect the people who expected the revenue will be quite upset. In this case, they'd only have their greed to blame. I can get alcohol for cheaper than I can water in some instances, the regulations and taxes on that product work very well. It would be a shame if congress took a working model and broke it, but that's their specialty, but they're kidding themselves if they think this is their new cash crop they can tax based on their feels that day. They can't stop us from growing our own haha.

I know, lets charge $1,000,000 per grow license ... that way NO ONE BUYS ANY! stupid new law will not be effective in eliminating black market/street dealers or MMJ, since these tax and license fees will raise the price far above black market prices! lol

Please wait...
