Oh lordy. If you're 18 and a freshman in college, go enjoy that best year of your life and don't get worked up about local politics (unless, of course, that's your life's calling). I think the author of this article doesn't remember being 18 and away from home for the first time. Look in the mirror beautiful young freshman - this is the best looking and energy filled you're ever going to be, so go have fun and don't worry about politics beyond informed voting. So many cool new things to do, and that window of high fun potential + few responsibilities stays open for what seems like a mili-second.
Dear college students. Fuck politics and just fuck each other where ever and whenever you want to! Trust me, getting worked up in politics is as pointless as getting worked up about sports. It doesn't mean a thing unless you are rich enough to own a huge stake in it.
The people who disagree with this article are part of the problem. "Enjoy college! Don't worry about the big picture! Be young!" etc., etc., etc. Typical apathetic Seattleite bullshit.
No no no...most of you have this wrong. The sooner a young person gets involved with politics the sooner they arrive at the moment of truth, years later, when they realize all this shit just repeats itself and that the BEST thing you can say about a politician is that they are liars.
The "I've been had by smarmy politicians" moment can't come soon enough.
AND...who is Heidi Groover to decide that the issues where a person attends college are more pressing than in the town/city where they came from? If they came from a conservative area, and they lean liberal, what good is siphoning off liberal votes from conservative areas just to get more liberal votes in a city that votes liberal anyway? Huh?????
Oh lord.
