You should add YouthCare to your homeless advocacy groups. They take care of homeless teens and young Adults

This is shit you were supposed to be doing no matter what the outcome of the election was.

Vigilance is the operative word. As Aldous Huxley said, “Eternal vigilance is not only the price of liberty; eternal vigilance is the price of human decency.”

Yes, protest today what Trump said he stands for -- misogyny, xenophobia, Islamaphobia, etc., but when he actually *does* something too us -- kick millions off Obamacare, for example, or start deporting Dreamers, then take to the streets -- by the thousands, not hundreds.

Haha, @2. If they were supposed to be doing it regardless of the outcome, and now they're doing it, it's kinda difficult to see what it is you're all bunched up over. Unless you're just perpetually in a state of bunched-upness, which it kind of seems like you are.

great, a new era of "are you against X, do you have 2 minutes for Y cause with a clipboard"

I had completely forgotten about that angle under W

How is the NAACP not on this list? Also, please, post direct link to these orgs. I don't understand why Shaun King, Robert Reich, etc are not doing this. "Hey, millions of FB followers here's the link to join NAACP/ACLU. Go do it."

Can anyone talk to me about what CAIR Seattle concretely does? It's a small enough independent org that there's not much information about it.

NW Immigrant Rights Council looks great -- direct legal services! -- but I couldn't find their nonprofit id number, are they one?

Right now I'm looking for mostly immediate direct help to individuals, more than lobbying and "impact litigation", no disrespect to those. Recommendations gratefully accepted, especially in the area of Muslim Americans, where CAIR seems to be more focused on media advocacy and lobbying.

Trevor Project, if you believe some LGBTQ youth will be having a shitty time now.

There are countless local community organizations that are doing important front-line work for and by marginalized communities right here at home, and they are great places to donate AND get involved with:

Environmental Justice: Got Green, 350 Seattle
Immigrant rights organizing: NW Detention Center Resistance, NW Immigrants Rights Project
Anti-Poverty: SHARE/WHEEL, Transit Riders Union, DESC, Stand Against Foreclosures & Evictions
Progressive organizing (so important) in Rural Oregon: Rural Organizing Project

Also the Social Justice Fund NW is a great group to donate to or get involved.

Also Standing Rock!

Lambert House is a safe space and community center of LGBTQ youth, located on Capitol Hill. I volunteer there, and seeing the way that the youth take ownership and love their community is extremely inspiring. They always take donations, but right now they're trying to purchase a permanent home, so they could really use the support: http://bit.ly/2fS37Kn

What's a good organization for women's reproductive rights? Planned Parenthood comes to mind, of course, but is there a better one for pushing back against the GOP/Trump agenda?

The only thing you can really do to get at the root of the problem (not that helping the disaffected is a waste of time), is actually go out and vote in the midterms.

I guess it is just human nature, but for some reason people tend to not care about congress even though they are the ones drafting and voting on the laws.

So go out and vote every damn time you can. And get your lazy ass friends to do so as well.

If Hillary had gotten similar turnout to Obama, Trump would be an unpleasant memory. Liberals have no one to blame but themselves for not showing up.

There was no "whitelash", there was no surge of rural voters. GOP voting is flat as hell year in and year out. Which is good news, because it tells you that if more democrats would actually bother voting they can win every national election.

This should be a regular column. Thank you.

I'd like to second the suggestion to add Lambert House, they're a really incredible and important organization for LGBT+ youth and I've volunteered there before, they would definitely welcome donations or volunteers.

The Latino Community Fund of Washington State also works to empower the Latino community.

No one gets anything more until I get my bill for st3.

Wow, not a single Native Organization. Bad form Stranger. Please apologize. Chief Seattle Club, Potlatch Fund, Native American Rights Fund, Indigenous Environmental Network, Indian Land Tenure Foundation, First Nations Development Institute, Longhouse Media, Red Eagle Soaring.... c'mon!

Please consider adding School's Out Washington to this list. They do a lot of work youth in underserved areas.

"School’s Out Washington (SOWA) has nearly three decades of active leadership in providing a rich foundation of quality standards, professional development, advocacy and support to bring empowering learning opportunities within reach of every young person.

We may be referred to as an “intermediary,” but we truly see ourselves as a “bridge” that connects schools, government agencies and the public with the afterschool and youth development field to create greater impact on the lives of more young people." http://www.schoolsoutwashington.org/inde…

The TU is the only organization in Seattle and the state providing comprehensive Education Program services, support for tenants, organizing, and tenant-led advocacy efforts. The TU’s Education Program serves as a critical source of information on current issues facing renters in the state, which directs the TU’s larger organizing and policy work.

Tenants Union is critical for all of us renters in this housing crisis!
24
I would add:

NW Network, which focuses on LGBTQ survivors of abuse...and building healthy relationships

Social Justice Fund NW, which supports many grassroots efforts for social change

Got Green which works to make sure that communities of color and low income communities benefit from a 'green' economy

Rainier Valley Corps which develops leadership skills for people of color in nonprofits

Just like the pundits and the Trumpsters, you ignored the misogyny and Anti-Semitism that fuels his voters and his cabinet. How about adding the National Organization of Women Seattle Branch(https://nowseattle.org) and Anti-Defamation League of the Pacific Northwest (http://seattle.adl.org)?
26
Thank you, Stranger Staff, for sharing this excellent list of resources to support.
@15: You nailed a critical point--poor voter turnout at the 2014 midterm election.
The long term travesty that is DJT is why I vote in all elections, and midterms are just
as important as general elections.

I sent $5 to the Cuck Fund.

Please wait...
