Cantwel (Or "Can't Say" as I call her) is rarely, if ever, the first to declare her intentions on much of anything. This doesn't necessarily mean that she's undecided, but if you come out of the gate right away and say "I'M FILIBUSTERING THAT GUY FOR SURE!!" you lose options to question him, get him to say something incriminating, or run the clock out to see if a Nannygate emerges.

It does tend to make her look a bit spineless.

There will be a 60 vote requirement, I hope they hold this seat open until a Democratic president can fill it.

Don't you mean until midterms when the GOP increases their majority by six seats?
4
And then what, so Trump can nominate someone else? Or is the goal to keep a 4-4 court?
5
Nobody will explain what they would be saving the filibuster for if they are afraid the Republicans will take it away. If Republicans would take it away over Gorsuch, then why won't they do it over any other future nominee? If fear of losing it is going to hold the Democrats back, it's tantamount to not having a filibuster option at all.

The only reason the Republicans don't want to take it away is that they would miss it when they're out of power, and they might want to cling to some vestige of legitimacy. But those reasons are their own. Whether the Democrats use the filibuster or not has no bearing on their reasons for wanting to keep it.

So use it. If you can't use it now, then you can't use it ever.

If they install their Justice by removing the filibuster, after their Garland coup, that's just one more nail in the coffin of their illegitimate rule, from their popular vote loss to gerrymandering to Russian influence to Comey's shenanigans. It it worth it, to hang on to power for another year or two, and then have to answer to the voters?

Besides which, when Democrats get a Senate majority, Republicans would have no power at all. They couldn't say no to anything. What's not to like?

Block Gorsuch. If it works, great. If not, the consolation prize isn't so bad.

It's just not right. The seat was stolen, hijacked and we was robbed. No one nominated by tRump and pushed through by these fuckers can ever be legitimate. Block Gorsuch.
7
Filibuster will trigger a rules change (following the Reid Doctrine) and confirmation with 51 votes (guaranteed). Bring it on... his next 3 nominees won't have to be nearly as mainstream then.

Grow up.
The Constitution gives the Senate the final say in who gets on the Court.
And they said no.
No means No.
Now move along.....

Obviously, you are seriously into blind obedience. Many tRumpers are.
Are you saying the seat wasn't stolen, that Merrick Garland wasn't unjustly snubbed?
Best wishes to you and the other victims of the Massacre at Bowling Green. I hope you all regain your senses and quickly.

"stolen"?
Oh dear.
Do you need to run get some dry panties before we continue?

To whom did it belong?
Before it was "stolen", that is.
It did not belong to Barak Obama.
It certainly did not belong to Garland.
It belonged to the American People.

And their Constitution dictates how the vacancy is to be filled.
By, and only with, the Advice and Consent of the Senate.
Obama did not seek the former and did not receive the latter.
It's really very cut and dry.

Garland was not "entitled" to a hearing, or anything else.
If Obama's choice was so blatantly unacceptable to the Senate they were and are perfectly within their rights to reject it out of hand.
Without further ado.
Which they did.

We are seriously into the Constitution, and rule of law.
Obama and The Left have become too cozy with rule by fiat, with ignoring and refusing to enforce laws they dislike, with using judges to legislate.
The American People are sick of that shit.
And elected a President who explicitly promised to put justices on the Court who would respect the law and Constitution.

Gorsuch is EXACTLY what the voters were demanding when they elected President Trump.
Gorsuch and three or four just like him.

Grow up.
Representative government is no game for children.
11
"The rule of law?" That's a good one. We'll see about that.

And the voters? Which voters? Southern bigots? Wyoming cornpokes whose votes are weighed 8 times more heavily than voters on the West Coast? Surely, you don't mean the majority, the majority you disregard, the majority I voted with.

The voters who elected President Trump,
by a wide margin,
as prescribed by the Constitution.
You're really not very good at this at all, are you;
representative government;
all about tantrums and pouting and being a buttsore bitch loser.

Grow up.

Just commenting to applaud @5's comment. If a stolen seat is not a legitimate cause for filibustering a judicial nomination, then nothing is.

And thanks for standing up to the empty Democratic argument about not wanting to see the filibuster requirement get removed on this nomination for fear of not being able to use it on a future nomination--when it could just as well be removed on the future nomination. The point is so pointless, it makes you figure the Democrats making it are being disingenuous and concealing their real reasoning.

If they're really just hiding their cards for when they eventually do decide to filibuster, I'll forgive them their momentary disingenuousness.

Clearly Theophilia, you missed that high school civics class on the Electoral College, you know that archaic mechanism designed to protect Southern slave-owning states. I could educate you, but it ain't worth the keystrokes.

Meanwhile, you've so elegantly advised four times to 'grow up.' When GOP maggots say that, they usually mean 'move on' or 'be quiet' or similar.

I will not shut up.

For 8 years, your people fueled the lie that our President was a Muslim who was not born in this country. Republicans blocked every path to progress it could as Republicans shut down the government and hurt the nation twice. You guys turned your back on every opportunity to open worthwhile dialog, and childishly refused to listen to any choice for the Supreme Court no matter who it was.

Don't ask me to be tolerant. I've tolerated enough.

Your tRump will be held accountable for everything that goes wrong in this country from this day forward. At least as much as you thought it was Obama's fault these last 8 years.

You know what, I think some of us will have the courage to continue pointing out his mistakes, his lies, his conflicts of interest, his racism, bigotry, sexism and xenophobia.

"Voters elected tRump by a wide margin"... Hahahahahahaha! Now, that's funny. Seriously, Theophilia, you can get treatment for that Bowling Green Massacre PTSD.... (But hurry, he's about to eviscerate your health care.)

We know that The Electoral College is how we elect a President in this nation.
If you don't like it, change it.
Or, just play the game badly and whine like a bitch.

Which "majority" did you vote with?
Hill only got 48% of the vote.

Trump won 60% of the states and 57% of the Electoral votes, a pretty impressive margin.
(You know, Trump won more states than your boy Barack won in either of his elections.)

We are always eager to learn something new but it seems you need to crack a book or two yourself before you start offering lessons...

Please wait...
