Gawd. Every day gets scarier.
2
If it's true that people aren't getting scared yet, why the hell aren't they? These people have been Orwellian from the beginning. Impeachment isn't going to help; that will just put Pence and his ilk closer to the levers of power. What the heck is wrong with people that they aren't awake to the existential threat posed by these miscreants?
3
Can you F*n believe these m*ther-#uckers?
4
Let me take care of that for you: “vulnerable,” >>>defenseless, unsafe; “entitlement,”>>> (depends on what they're talking about, are they talking about rights or privileges or Medicare, Social Security, Food Stamps, Medicaid, etc.?); “diversity,”>>> diverseness, multiplicity, variousness; “transgender,”>>>relating to people whose sexual identity does not match traditionally accepted male and female genders; “fetus,”>>>blastula, embryo, fertilized egg “evidence-based”>>>FACT based, truth, and “science-based.”>>>FACT based, truth, information based, reality, real, proven ETC.

Do these idiots actually believe there is no way around there banning of words? (That is a rhetorical question). ROCKS ARE SMARTER THAN THESE ASSHOLES, FFS.

*THEIR banning
6
Doesn't matter.

Trump supporters will follow Trump to their graves.

They're like the Joker's henchmen. Doesn't matter how crazy the Joker gets, even if he murders some of them, they'll never betray him. Never.
7
@2: we are at full employment. humans do not respond to existential threats; they respond to direct threats.

sexually harass some actress? high five! sexually harass my sister? i'll kill you.

"a dictator"?
Really?

The hysterical hyperbolic objectively false hate-mongering propaganda spewed by the Leftist Media doesn't seem to be scaring the holy shit out of people because they are numb to it.

The Big Story of 2016 was not the election of "a dictator".
It was the loss of legitimacy and relevance of the "news" media.

Outlets from cnn to msnbc and npr to the nyt and wapo etc abandoned any pretense of objectivity in their shilling for Hillary (against all comers, Bernie or Trump or whomever)

A huge proportion of the population reflexively disregard (with loathing) anything they say.
That is the big story of 2016.

Trump was just a symptom.

Our Republic can withstand incompetent and corrupt politicians.
It can not, however, withstand the loss of a fair, objective press.

The next time you start banging out hair-on-fire panty-pissing drivel parading as 'journalism', Rich, remember you are destroying American Democracy.
Shame on you.
9
@8 You're the biggest panty pisser here if you think biased journalism, something that's existed since this country's conception, is a threat to democracy when compared to the executive branch banning certain words it dislikes in order to undercut their competition and those they disagree should exist.
11
We should just use some replacement words, but let's really torture these idiots with them.
Let's have fun!
FETUS = "UTERINE PARASITE"
ENTITLEMENTS = "FUNDS THE 1% CAN'T KEEP"
SCIENCE = "REAL PROOF"

wait, they actually can't use words in the english language??????
12
@6 - Trump's supporters are the ones who don't matter - there aren't enough of them to maintain control of the government. Its all the *other* Republican voters, the ones who still hold some civic virtue in their hearts - those are the ones who matter.
13
@8: you live in bizarro world. i was a consumer of media, specifically the NYT, during that campaign. they bent over backwards to avoid calling Trump a Pathological Liar and legitimize HRC's email scandal. it pissed me off to no end.

Trump, Russian Trolls, and the actually-biased RW media exploited the objectivity of the MSM. they exposed the essential powerless of the MSM in the face of well-funded propaganda and social media's idiocy-enabling.

trump isn't a "symptom", he's an authoritarian clown, and either you're blind to that or you embrace it. either way, fuck off. slither back to from whence you came.
14
Banning words. Hmmm. Fascism lives. What a fucking jerk.
17
Reminds one of the old scifi classic "The Languages of Pao" (Jack Vance) wherein planetary propagandists shifted languages to make populations more docile or more warlike for money. One simple example was they replaced words for 'stranger' with words for 'enemy' or 'threat'. Has Bannon managed to read this source? or just mein kampf?

1984 will only be good for us if it stops crime, whether it be from cops killing randomly or govt shenanigans. It will take freedom away from people who live in the shadows. Just as long as the police and govt don't take control over our privacy, they're mainly the ones that need to fear 1984.

What is most appalling -- if it is possible to be more appalled by any thing more -- is the directive writes a model sentence for avoiding the science-based and evidence-based words. (From The Week daily news digest): In place of the latter two phrases, the directive suggested saying things like, "CDC bases its recommendations on science in consideration with community standards and wishes."
20
@19..i wonder what monkey they used to write the directive. i’m sure president baboon ass couldn’t string them words together.
21
@13
What exactly did the Russians do that has The Left in a dither?
Leak emails that expose the true nature of the Democrat apparatus? embarrassing.
Leak emails that The American People, acting through their elected representatives in congress, had subpoenaed; emails that Hillary had scrubbed? Bully for them.
Ran ads that echoed the hysterical hate-mongering rhetoric of BLM and other Leftist hate groups? shameful.
Is that it? Are we missing something?
The Russians seem to have done far less than CNN or the FBI did to advance the interests of Hillary.
22
Banning words is really just stigginit. Trump and his cronies do things for no other reason than to poke their fingers in liberals' eyes because trump's supporters squeal with glee at their opponent's unhappiness.

It's really just hatred. As much as trump's supporters claim the liberals aren't listening to them and are just insulting them, well, they're doing exactly the same thing.

I doubt this will end well for anyone (except the wealthy, they ignore everyone and simply continue stealing from them).
23
Science, in the old sense, has almost ceased to exist. In USpeak there is no word for ‘Science’. The empirical method of thought, on which all the scientific achievements of the past were founded, is opposed to the most fundamental principles of Triumpism.
24
@8 - Nah, media has always been biased. It's the entire "pretense of objectivity" while maintaining a pro-establishment bias that has led (at least some) people to dismiss the NYT & others.
Fox News, of course, also pretends to be unbiased (quite vocally too: "The No-Spin Zone", "Fair & Unbiased"...) while it delivers highly partisan yet also pro-establishment bias.

The bigger problem is the population's unwillingness/inability to read multiple news sources and decide for themselves. -- How many different news sources do you read, Brewster?

There has been a giant project of "soundbiting" the news into free-floating phrases since the late 80s, and a concerted push towards non-rational "emotional" rhetoric. Such inflammatory rhetoric ("Terrorists!", "Immigrants!") bypasses rational thought, and reduces one's worldview by exciting "anxiety" & then a search for a solution to that anxiety. Job instability, healthcare bankruptcy, credit card debt & others are real anxieties -- with potential solutions. But the news plays footsie with the political establishment to encourage more anxiety -- but without any solutions.

On top of that, the deindustrialization of the USA, combined with the neoliberal punishment meted out by Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama & now Trump, has served to impoverish the middle (2 incomes required now!) & lower classes in the US, making it harder for them to even engage in politics, & further insulating their worldviews.

So, sure, the loss of trust in the media is an issue, but I would assert that it is because we all realized the MSM are apologists for the political-economic establishment.

I mean, when is the last time you saw a Labor section in the newspaper?

What news sources even promote the viewpoints of working class Americans?

Care to name any?

Please wait...
