Ok, ok. We get it, Eli. Is this all you write about now? A couple stories was enough.

Remember voting for her in the first election I was eligible to vote in. #Proud

I donโ€™t know what @1 is on about. I really enjoyed this piece and would love to see more like it in the future.

+1 for this is fascinating, best article this week.

I had no idea about the history of the PDC. Nor that Willi Unsoeld was married to someone even more badass than him.

Eli, disregard @1.

Great story, Eli. I was in my early 20's, living in a very cheap, very neglected apt off of Broadway (which were plentiful back in the day), and I went to a great little diner on E. Broadway, was it Andy's?--best hot turkey sandwiches ever--, and these guys were in there talking about "the owl bitch". I knew immediately who they meant, and I felt pride in Jolene for taking the conservationist stand. She will always be the owl woman, to me.

I sold (soeld?) some furniture to Jolene Unsoeld when I worked at Scan Design in the early 2000's. Some of her stuff was back-ordered from Denmark, and it wasn't arriving on schedule. The company was giving weak, waffling reasons for this, which I relayed to her. In this situation customers would either be resigned to waiting or they'd get frustrated and impotently complain about it. Not Jolene Unsoeld. She calmly and firmly rattled off a list of regulatory agencies and elected officials she was prepared to enlist in her aid if I failed to immediately refund her deposit. It was clear she knew *exactly* which levers to press to make the bureaucracy creak into action in the cause of justice. When she left, I immediately Googled her, and it all made sense. Special lady!

Unsoeld was a liberal who staunchly supported the Second Amendment. That didn't stop the NRA from targeting her in the 1990s, which is one of the reasons she lost. One more piece of evidence that the NRA is a right-wing political organization, not the apolitical pro-RKBA group it tries to paint itself as.

The voters of South West Washington sacked this remarkable woman in favor of a Pentecostal with a G.E.D.

The yokel barbarism that reigns in this part of the state (outside of Olympia and Vancouver, at any rate) has never expressed itself more unambiguously.
