Reminds me of the song "Where do you go to my lovely".

2

@1--great comment.

3

Yes, yes I do actually. I care very much. This is especially ironic as I can only understand what it's like to have your child taken away from you in an intellectual sense, not having any children.

It is perplexing to me that people who have kids are saying anything other than, "WTF is wrong with you?"

4

Maybe she's talking to her husband, as in, I don't give a shit about supporting your policies, you psychotic piece of medical waste!

5

When you're rich enough, you don't have to care.

6

But just imagine the outrage that would have ensued had Michelle Obama boarded a plane - to anywhere - wearing that or a similar jacket!

7

Time was, the conservatives were so worried about white house decorum, a fist bump was beneath the office. Hypocrites.

“Hidden” message or just sartorial choice - no first lady should wear the message of a petulant 14-year old who just got back from the mall. If she doesnt care, she should make her temporary disappearance from public view permanent.

9

She's just another rich, entitled, lazy asshole taking a break from her full-time job as a gold digging trophy wife to model for the cameras.

That sad jacket is her own Fuck You to America from a regime whose only guiding principal is Fuck You.

12

I dunno if it was accident or on purpose. Melania seems like someone who truly doesn't care about anyone or anything other than herself. Not even out of maliciousness necessarily... just out of base selfishness. I doubt she'd wear it as a snipe at the detained children. She probably wasn't thinking about anything other than her next spa appointment.

13

Can you imagine the mass spouting of obscenities if Michelle Obama had worn such a tacky jacket in public? But then, Mrs. Obama was not married to the Bully in Chief either, was she. Basically, the "first lady" can do whatever the EFF she wants.

14

I don't care what Melania wears, she has been an out of touch rich dickhead since she became a trump. If it took her wearing this for you to realize that you are a huge moron and should not allowed to leave your house without a helmet and a chaperone.

15

Her spokeperson is absolutely correct - the message is not hidden.

16

Can't wait until the day—hopefully soon!—when we never have to hear about or see anyone in this feral fucking family ever again.

17

Wait, wasn't this asshole supposed to hold a press conference and provide proof that she didn't violate immigration law and work in this country illegally? Why isn't she in a cage now?

19

Totally intentional. When do you think was the last time she wore anything that cost $39? I'd bet not since she came to the US on her Einstein visa. (insert side-eye).

20

Trump just tweeted that the jacket was a comment on the "fake news media." Man, I'm exhausted just typing that.

21

Trump: "“I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?” written on the back of Melania’s jacket, refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!"

22

@19:

I dunno - some of the thongs I've seen her in probably cost about that much...

24

This whole thing reeks of distraction and no one in this nauseating administration would hesitate to throw hapless Melania under the bus if they wanted to fix our focus elsewhere for a moment.

25

@22:

Oh, they probably thought she was just "stigginit!"

26

@23, that is...

27

I'd like to propose a t-shirt that says:
I DO CARE
DTMFA

28

@19 - "I'd bet not since she came to the US on her Einstein visa. ": My impression was that she came to the US on her back.

29

Considering that she stepped way out on to the kind of limb that First Ladies never do by offering even the most tepid criticism of her husband in all this, critiquing her fashion choices seems kinda out of line.

So, here's a little tid-bit I picked up along the way. We have no idea whatsoever what was going through her head when she put that coat on.

Maybe she was sending a message that said "I don't care about immigrant kids, which seems to be what Team Blue is foaming at the mouth over.

Or maybe she was thinking "I don't care what the lamestream media says about this photo op," which would be what Team Red is all huffed up and ranting about.

Or maybe it's a message to her husband, who's likely dispatching her for damage control.

Or maybe it's a sponsorship thing and she's making bank (this is the Trump family after all).

Or maybe she just grabbed something at random out of the closet.

Or maybe.... Or maybe....

Whatever. This whole post reeks of first world problems.

The Trump presidency is all about misdirecting the public with stupid, meaningless media outrages-du-jour, just like this one. While the real scandal is always buried. And the progressives play along with this misdirection every, single time.

Example: when was the last time you read in this pages about what the administration (or the previous one) is doing in sub-Saharan Africa right now? But now at least we know all about what coat Melania Trump wore today.

You all deserve Trump.

30

She doesn't care. OK. Got it.
And next she asks if (I, you, we) do.
So since she does not care, she does not care if we care or not, correct?
So the question can be presumed to be rhetorical, or meaningless. And yet she asks it.
The woman is reaching out. Her loneliness is beyod explanation or understanding. Her only child is autistic, she is trapped in a loveless marriage and lives in a bubble, she is probably drugged out. What a sad, sick situation.

31

This can only mean she's made a deal with Zara to provide more children for their factories.

32

It's worth remembering that Zara has had to previously recall products like shirts designed after Auschwitz uniforms, skirts with Pepe le Frog on them, and a t-shirt saying "White Is the New Black". And with Miller and Nielsen deliberately going to Mexican restaurants this week I'm sensing a pattern.

33

For a woman who always seems extremely careful with her wardrobe choices, this was indeed odd and definitely bad timing. She doesn't seem to be stupid so I have to think that the message was meant for someone. That said, I'd like to think that Ms. Trump finally got enough of The Donald and, knowing that he'd be watching the news, wore it as a message to him, loud and clear, about how she feels (as a big 'Fuck-You" to him for all the world to see).

34

No she doesn't, and it's because she is not really a flesh and blood woman, but a robot. Forced by her own ambitions and the patriarchal forces in the west to lose her centre, turning it to marshmallow. And what, you sentimental westerners, of all the babies you've killed.
And at the same time as this charade is going on, Congress gets set to pass more bills stripping the poorer people. And there's Mueller, diligently going about his work, setting up his attack points, and following the Law. Can't be long now, surely.

35

@33, JohBalz. Yes it could be her trolling him and that would make her a clever performance artist.
She's a mother to a fragile young man, she'd know the pain those kids and parents would be in.
She still doesn't walk, and maybe it's time she did.

36

"Can you imagine the outrage if Michelle Obama did this?" yells dozens of outraged people on a post about how outraging it is, in a sea of news articles expressing outrage.

38

Have we ruled out the possibility that she's illiterate?

39

Apparently, der Fuhrer is now trying to spin this as the message on the jacket being addressed to the media. The fact it took him nearly a full day to concoct this weak-tea "explanation" tells me whomever is supposed to be wrangling FLOTUS really screwed the pooch on this one. But then, screwing the pooch is what this administration does best.

42

Dougsf @ 31 - IMO, you win the thread. By a mile.

44

I don't think this quite rises to an Antoinette Award.

If absolutely forced to guess, I'd call the jacket a way of questioning the depth and breadth of concern expressed. It feels like the sort of gesture one might see from le beau Milo. It's a trollier way of saying, "Oh, come off it; you don't really care."

45

"Hidden message?" It wasn't hidden! It was written in huge-ass honking great capital letters! Geez, how obvious can you get?

46

I am a tomboy. My clothing choices mean nothing. Melania Trump is a fashionista. All of her clothing choices are carefully selected to mean something. You can't tell me that wasn't a deliberate act of contempt.
