A problem with focusing on climate as a campaign issue is its vagueness and time frame. To the set of population who are generally liberal but not very informed for whatever reason, the climate crisis seems random and far away. It's not excessively hot ALL the time, it just seems there are more hot days than there were last year, if they can remember last year. Maybe there's more hurricanes? How many were there last year? They don't pay attention to things like that.

What they do pay attention to though, are things they can see and hear and feel right in front of their faces, all the time. They still make shit pay for the work they do every day. They still can barely pay their student loans. They still see wall street fat cats earning record profits every quarter. They see cops shooting unarmed black people. They see racists holding rallies for Civil War statues. Every day. In their face.

Yeah climate is probably the most important issue to the continuation of humanity, but they have other immediate problems right now that seem like nobody's fixing.
