It's Been Pretty Funny

Looking forward to the cognitive and rhetorical knot tying the usual SLOG Trolling Dipshit Brigade is going to do to explain why this is all politically motivated but chanting "lock her up" for six years was not.

2

Not to worry, Roger. The usual sociopaths are there alright, but they’re too busy directing their ire at societies’ most vulnerable again (it’s too tempting a target) to bother with defending Trump’s criminal behaviour.

if The Stranger’s not careful, their comment sections will turn into the cesspit at Willamette Week, which is where it’s been heading over the last year.

3

I don't give a fuck about this. Trump is a traitor who attempted to overthrow the government, murder his VP, and anoint himself the fascist leader of the United States. Until he dies in prison for treason (or is executed for being a traitor) no one in this country should be celebrating. All we got is him paying hush money to a porn star? FFS this country has its head so far up its ass it is truly amazing that anyone in it can breathe.

7

you had me at tyrant baby shitbag

8

Initially Trump and Micael Cohen were guilty of falsifying business records, a misdemeanor. Now its extrapolated into felony and we're all supposed to feel it's the rule of law. Perhaps so, but the optics and politics are terrible.

11

This was a great & funny post, even if it was pretty low hanging fruit. More national current events reporting apart from morning news roundups!

18

@15 Your Whataboutism is perfectly on point for you.

19

@1: Wow, our oft-banned prof’ has drunk such an incredibly large amount of his own Kool-Aid, he actually believes the comment section at (what remains of) Seattle’s lefty alt-weekly has become chock-full of fanatical Trump supporters. (Has his Kool-Aid an extremely high urine content? Maybe we should ask @2.)

Meanwhile, in the actual comments which have followed, we see jubilation, amusement, cautious happiness — and worries the indictments will not lead to successful prosecutions. Not exactly the foaming-at-the-mouth denunciation of the indictments about which @1 was so energetically fapping.

@18: Sir Toby wasn’t whatabouting anything. He was one of the commenters worrying the indictments might not lead to successful prosecutions.

21

@18: So far, the only person whatabouting in this comment thread is @6, where the commenter makes a false equivalence between CM Sawant’s admitted theft of public resources (note: from taxes) with Trump’s alleged misuse of campaign funds (privately donated, but still subject to strict regulations). So if you want to go on about whatabouting, please take it to this thread’s supporter of CM Sawant.

22

If Sir Toby II can say “sweep, sweep, sweep” to the homeless-
I say “indict, indict, indict” to Trump. He makes Nixon look like a choirboy.

23

I'm just amazed The Stranger is celebrating the fact that someone has been charged with a crime. Maybe this is the beginning of an editorial shift from their previous position that no one should be held accountable for anything they've ever done? I guess we'll have to wait for the next article about homeless encampments to see if the shift sticks.

25

@23: Homeless people have no resources (not even a home!) and no power. Former President of the United States Donald Trump has abundant resources and enormous power. So we cut homeless people more slack than we do Donald Trump. Does that make sense?

28

@25, @27: The crimes committed by homeless persons hurt the rest of the population of Seattle. Therefore, the persons who commit the crimes should be punished for those crimes. If they tire of receiving punishment, they can leave Seattle.

While it’s hard to see exactly how Trump paying hush money to a stripper harms anyone in Seattle, Sir Toby is correct: we stand on the principle of no one being above the law, and so we cheer Trump’s indictment.

Does that make sense?

@32: I speculate the main crime Socialist Alternative may have committed was to violate Seattle’s campaign-finance laws. She simply never had the support in Seattle to staff all of those tables with local volunteers, and so they would have been imported from other parts of the country. If SA paid for their transport/lodging, then those costs would have needed to be reported to Seattle’s Office of Ethics and Elections, and the travel & lodging costs for more than 1-2 “volunteers” would have exceeded the legal limit for any given campaign. (I recall speaking at length with one of the table volunteers in 2019. He tried to tell me his ‘home’ on Beacon Hill was in District 3.)

Sawant earned her sobriquet, “Seattle’s Very Own Trump of the Left,” in part by sharing his utterly contemptuous attitude toward personally obeying laws. While she’s never come close to his level of crime, that’s simply due to her never having reached his level of opportunity.

35

@8 At least wait until we see the charge sheet on Tuesday. There’s a solid chance of seeing witness tampering and obstruction of justice in addition to the other stuff we know about.

@28: lol, sure you're cheering! For every one post you make about Trump's wrongdoing, you make a hundred about the homeless.

Listen to your own words: "it’s hard to see exactly how Trump paying hush money to a stripper harms anyone in Seattle."

You only really get mad when poor people break the law. When it's a star, you just let him grab it, don't you?

38

@37: “For every one post you make about Trump's wrongdoing, you make a hundred about the homeless.”

That’s called ‘staying on-topic,’ because for every post the Stranger makes about Trump, they mention the homeless about a hundred times.

‘"it’s hard to see exactly how Trump paying hush money to a stripper harms anyone in Seattle."’

You’re free to explain how it does. Yet, somehow, you didn’t even try.

“You only really get mad when poor people break the law.”

In this case, the “poor people” are stealing from other residents of Seattle, a place which I once called home. So yes, I do still get mad about that. (Especially when they steal from folks in places like the CID, who aren’t exactly rich.)

“When it's a star, you just let him grab it, don't you?”

I’m not sure what I’m “letting him grab,” given how (thank goodness!) I never go anywhere near him, and I strongly advise everyone else to imitate me on that.

“…sure you're cheering!”

Am I not cheering loudly enough? With insufficient gusto? Look, I hope he pays for his crimes, same as anyone else who commits crimes. If you have some problem with that, please let me know what it is.
