Here's another real race, with three Dems squaring off for the nomination and, in this safe Democratic district, the seat itself. So who's the Glee Club gonna go for? Cheryl Chow? Nope. Despite the fact that Chow seems, how shall we say it, more "together" than ever before, and has some good ideas about state two-year colleges, the former Seattle City Council member and temporary Garfield High School principal is offering up too little, too late in her second comeback bid. Eric Pettigrew? Nope. Yeah, yeah, the guy set up Safeco insurance company's Jackson Street Center and has all kinds of big endorsements (Norm Rice, Ron Sims, and outgoing seat holder Kip Tokuda), but Pettigrew's willingness to accept big pharmaceutical money (his opponents will not) is compounded by his inability to explain why last session's prescription bill needed tweaking.

Angela Toussaint? Nope. Well okay, but reluctantly. We're uncomfortable with Toussaint's lack of experience, but her strong-willed lefty politics will be a bonus in the Democratic fight for tax reform and a real prescription drug bill. (And she's black, which should make Kline voters feel a little less guilty.) She also dares to question light-rail technology (not just Sound Transit), which will come in handy if the Legislature is dealing with transportation packages again.
