Great interview, thank you for this week's issue.

Is Dominic's/The Stranger's position that Ms. McDonald shouldn't have been charged with murder or convicted of 2nd degree manslaughter? Is it that, once convicted, Ms. McDonald shouldn't have served time at a Men's correctional facility? I'm not clear on that.

Absolutely it appears that Ms. McDonald and her friends were victims of racially-motivated and gender- and homophobic taunting and assault on the night of June 5, 2011. It's not entirely clear, from what I've been able to read (Star Tribune, Mother Jones, Daily Pages), that stabbing Mr. Schmitz with a pair of scissors (which resulted in his death) was either inevitable or reasonably necessary in self defense. Does anyone have any links to testimony accounts or articles that make that connection a bit more clearly?

I actually found a more detailed account, myself. HuffPost, of all places:

While I'd like to be able to take Cece at her word, it'd still be nice to have some corroborating testimony and details from the tox screen.

At the very least she should have been held in a women's facility, seeing as how she's a WOMAN. Being a trans* woman in a men's prison can be incredibly dangerous, not to mention mentally disparaging. Massive disrespect and disregard of her personal safety from the justice system.

Please wait...
