Sorry to reply a little late, but I just stumbled upon the article. The Dildo law in Alabama was set up to prevent selling them in stores. It was enjoined (as the state believes it's useless to enforce) shortly after when civil liberty groups sued. Though Attorney General Troy King has fought to bring back the law, only to make an a** out of himself.

Elected officals probably tried to pass a law to please some Church group that supported them by passing a bill, and didn't care if it was realistic or not. It's more political corruption then lack of dildos, you can find them in most cities, rural towns might be rough though, but it's not like a drive is going to stop you.
