Think the Retail Record Biz Isn't Dying? Tell That to Alderwood Mall

I was hoping some non-mall alternatives for vinyl goodness might have been offered towards the end of this article. :/

Dear Tom, did your head get chopped off today? See paragraph 7.

Seems like with the crappy turntables and cartridges Urban Outfitters are offering with the lps, few people are going to be super impressed with the results if they decide to experiment and try one.

Still, there is just soooo much freakin music out there on old lps, music lovers would be crazy not to have a table. But then, I still don't have a cd player other than my computer, which I use to put cds on my iphone...

Oh, shit, I revealed myself again. The cd era has passed and I still haven't caught up to it...

I do have quite a bit of contemporary music on lp, but with my budget I do more delving into the past...

I can't remember the last time I looked for non-contemporary music and couldn't find it in a digital format.

Plus, record stores are full of...record geeks. This is a selling point for record geeks, and a non-factor or negative for everyone else.

I shop exclusively at Peaches Records and Tapes.

My first job ever, after the babysitting years, was at Wherehouse Records at Alderwood Mall (where the Daiso store is now). Yes, it was a mall store but we, the staff of seven, made it fairly cool - we'd do special orders and break the rules by playing things like Crowded House's 2nd album two months before it was released or (daringly) the Black Album by Prince (with a few tracks left off). It was a good first job as I aged out of my teens - I learned a bit about EVERY type of music, not just what I'd always listened to on my own up until that time.

I miss DJ's Sound City.
9
Why can't stores sell music on a USB stick instead of on CDs which are bulky to carry and have to be transferred to people's phones or portal devices?
10
Young people are listening to MP3 compressed 'music' via earbuds on their cell phone. I weep for our future.

Please wait...
