In 2012, The Stranger's David Schmader debuted his latest solo play with a sold-out run at Hugo House, blowing people away with his story of budding romance against a backdrop of personal and national crises. The crises are some of the major ones—childhood trauma, HIV, 9/11—but the way Schmader described his pursuit of comedy in the midst of face-blasting pathos was an unforgettable experience in catharsis. Short-Term Solution is an excellent complement to Intiman’s Angels in America, another theatrical exercise in sifting through devastation to find hope. This is a one-night opportunity—do not miss it. (Velocity Dance Center, 1621 12th Ave, intiman.org, 7 pm [sold out] and 9 pm, $20)
