To create this brand-new work—The Most Innovative, Daring, and Original Piece of Dance/Performance You Will See This Decade—Seattle dancer and choreographer Amy O’Neal focused on what actually held her obsessive attention: hiphop culture (from the perspective of a white woman teaching hiphop dance), Ciara’s “Ride” video (you really need to watch it if you haven’t), Janet Jackson, booty dance. The result is an evening-length exploration of gender, economics, race, and the ass. The piece is an essay and an entertainment.
