Parallax is the third album by Atlas Sound, solo moniker of Bradford Cox—singer, guitarist, and head dreamer of Deerhunter, the most beautiful ambient-psych band to ever play a punk bar in Atlanta, Georgia. Cox has used the name since he was a grade-schooler, recording hundreds of cassettes on a karaoke machine branded “atlas sound.” Years later, Parallax, though amazing in production, still retains the impossible purity of a what I like to think is preteen Cox—maybe a little stoned, crooning awkward love songs to me inside a fort we made out of old bedsheets.
