ToST
513 N 36th St, 547-0240

I dream of Walter Gropius, and wake up in ToST (pronounced "toast"), one of Fremont's classiest watering holes. It's a bar with sort of a Bauhaus feel--"streamlined industrial" you'd call it: corrugated tin roof with hanging metal trelliswork, concrete floor, metal-lined bar. The interior is dominated by the stage, where musicians of varying sorts perform live six nights a week (closed Mondays), everything from acoustic Sundays to punk shows (some nights there's a small cover, so call first). ToST offers food, but if you want standard bar fare, go elsewhere (no toast, either). Their offerings are very Mediterranean: pita, hummus, baba ghanoush, that sort of thing. And as for the booze--this is a bar, after all--there's an eye-popping selection of 17 different martinis to choose from. Long live Weimar! SANDEEP KAUSHIK
