DJ Terra Hymen
GIGS: "Anywhere Acerbic Entertainment is performing. You'll just have to keep your eyes open!"

How was Terra born?

"I have been spinning professionally for five years as DJ Oblix, her male alter ego. Last year I began doing a monthly show--in drag--at ARO.space with Veruca Vain. It was wild. Then I thought, hey, why not combine the two? It wasn't easy for Oblix to score gigs as a hardcore DJ.... But a drag queen spinning hardcore? There was a severe shortage of hardcore DJs in drag. Like they say, 'Find a niche and fill it.'"

What is your genre of choice?

"It varies between hardcore, gangstacore, terrorcore (or as I like to call it "Terra-core"), and the occasional buttrock classic. I LOVE buttrock--anything by Mötley Crüe, Ratt, Poison. I can't get enough. Def Leppard's Pyromania is on my turntable as we speak."

Who are your idols or biggest influences?

"Nikki Sixx, Pat Benatar, Lita Ford, Lenny Dee, Santa Clause, Jenny Craig, and the most phenomenal, kickass hard techno DJ ever, DJ C. W. He's my idol."

What was your most memorable gig?

"I really don't have one... yet. Every fucking party I have played at so far has ragged on me because my hardcore is too intense. The assholes. DJ Oblix has had the best gigs."

Is it easier for DJ Oblix to get good gigs because he's a boy?

"No, it's just that because he is a boy, people expect the music to be hard. As Terra, they get off on the novelty of having me there as a woman, but they don't expect the music I spin to be as hard as it is. I am a surprise--they are expecting something else."

What would Oblix have to say to you?

"Bitch, you bit my style!"

How would you respond?

"Blow me."
