Jacob Martin a.k.a. DJ Michiko
RESIDENCIES: Marcus' on Thursdays and Sundays.

In our DJ listings, it lists your night as "Ashtray." What's up with that?

"It's a misprint I'd love to see your calendar people correct. It's supposed to be Astray, seeing as how most Thursdays it's low-key and experimental."

Who is your favorite DJ of all time?

"Besides DJ Skribble, I'm partial to Richie Hawtin for precision, Dave Ralph for goofy trance, and Donald Glaude for sheer party pleasure. I hope everyone knows I was joking about DJ Skribble."

Recordwise, what has been your best find?

"Survivor's 'Eye of the Tiger' on 45."

What song is most requested by drunk people?

"That one song, you know, that one that goes... 'Umm hmm dum hmm.' You know, they play it on the End. You know, that one song."

It seems that many DJs lack a sense of humor. Why do you think that is?

"Actually, DJ humor is quite rampant and is to be found most evidently in liner notes of comps and mix tapes, interviews in industry press mags, and a forthcoming anthology, 12 Inches of Funny: The Comprehensive Compendium of DJ Humour. It's published by St. Martin's Press."

Is it true that the DJ always gets the chicks, or is that just rock stars?

"DJs with cool names and record contracts--DJ Skribble, DJ Lynnwood, etc.--get the chicks. Same with rock stars, like Kip Winger."

What would you play for Mark Sidran's birthday party?

--N.W.A., "Fuck tha Police"

--Aphex Twin, "Come to Daddy (Pappy mix)"

--Rammstein, "Du Riechst So Gut"

--DK, "Kill the Poor"

--G. G. Allin, Hated (soundtrack)

"All played through a massive PA turned up to 11."
