You wouldn't know it from reading the daily papers, and it didn't pop up in any of Mayor Nickels' neighborhood speeches, but there was a huge street fight on Capitol Hill's Broadway at East Pike Street last Monday night, May 12.

At 1:30 a.m., cops got a call that 100 people were brawling at Broadway and Pike. Off-duty officers in the area also heard shots fired.

By the time more cops showed up, the rumble moved into a parking lot next to Broadway's Taco Del Mar. "There were approximately 30 people squaring off to fight," Officer Ovens noted in the police report. They scattered at the sight of cops, and police surveyed the damage: Three cars had bullet holes, and keys, shell casings, and ID cards were strewn all over the lot. A 26-year-old man showed up at Harborview a few minutes later with a gunshot wound to the hip. The man told police "he was just walking along when he got shot for no apparent reason," the report said.

While the police finished investigating in the parking lot, another big fight broke out at 10th Avenue and Pike Street, and wasn't subdued until 3:00 a.m.
