SUNDAY 1/8

99% FUNNY

Billy Wayne Davis headlines 99% Funny, a standup comedy showcase to benefit the city's roaming band of Occupy Seattle protesters (because the rich need comedy like death needs a new hairstyle). "All proceeds go directly to their organization," says producer and comedian Jake Bales, "and I've had an outpouring of support from fellow comics on the Seattle scene." Local comedians include Robert Lackey, Jeremy Whitman, Anthony Robinson, Sean McCarthy, Jen Seaman, and Rick Taylor. Chop Suey, 8 pm, $10, 21+.

Cienna Madrid, staff writer for The Stranger, regrets that she doesn't have more hours in the day to devote to this column. In an ideal world, she would flit from comedy show to comedy show, racking up bar tabs, high-fiving jokesters, and retelling their jokes in print instead of spending her evenings going to community meetings (where there are no bar tabs) or attending press conferences about serial rapists (there is no satisfaction in high-fiving a serial rapist). But hear ye, local comedians! E-mail her at cmadrid@thestranger.com, tell her about your upcoming gigs (more than two weeks in advance, please!), and she will do her goddamn best to plug 'em! recommended
