THURSDAY NOVEMBER 4

BUSH THE BUTTON

John Bain's sound installation is brilliantly simple. Push an intercom button and the moronic phrases of George W. Bush spew forth, filling you with post-election rage or relief. Outside the Stumbling Monk, 1635 E Olive Way, 860-0916, runs 24-7, free.

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 5

AFTEREARS

A cozy avant parallel to the Earshot Jazz festival, AfterEars christens the space previously inhabited by Polestar Music Gallery with the Wally Shoup Quartet, the dueling acoustic violins of noise mavens Noggin, and Na, a trio of fun, manic, and surprising Japanese improvisers. Also Sat Nov 6 with Murderous Copulation of Birds, Ensemble with Tape, and the Eric Barber/Paul Kikuchi Duo. Gallery 1412, 1412 18th Ave at E Union, 8 pm, $5-$15 sliding scale.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 6

KEITH EISENBREY

Soprano Karen Eisenbrey joins this pianist and smartly spiky composer to perform "all of the songs he has written since 1989." Also slated for this recital, a benefit for church outreach programs, Eisenbrey's Create Desolation And Call It Peace along with works by Seattle composers Gavin Borchert and Ken Benshoof. United Methodist Church, 1415 NE 43rd, 632-5163, 8 pm, $10 suggested donation.

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 7

ORCHESTRA SEATTLE

Perhaps predicting post-election squabbling, George Shangrow leads the band and the Seattle Chamber Singers in "Solace," a program of four cantatas by J. S. Bach: "Ich ruf' zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ" BWV 177, "Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan" BWV 99, "Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben" BWV 147, and "Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen" BWV 51. Town Hall, Eighth Ave and Seneca St, 682-5208, 3 pm, $18/$22.

SEATTLE JAZZ VESPERS

This monthly concert combines an hour-and-a-half jazz performance with a brief worship interlude that even an atheist like me doesn't mind. With Brazilian pianist Jovino Santos Neto and his Quintet. Seattle First Baptist Church, 1111 Harvard Ave, 325-6051, 6 pm, free-will donation.

MONDAY NOVEMBER 8

UW CONTEMPORARY GROUP

A smattering of 20th-century American music including Double Music for percussion by John Cage and Lou Harrison, Ruth Crawford Seeger's visionary Music for Small Orchestra from 1926, and Elliott Carter's Rhapsodic Musings for Solo Violin. Meany Theater, UW Campus, 543-4880, 7:30 pm, $8/$10.

TUESDAY NOVEMBER 9

JOHN PIZZARELLI

Guest vocalist Daniel Jobim, grandson of Antonio Carlos Jobim, joins this crooner's "Bossa Nova Show." With a comforting nasal twang reminiscent of Jo-o Gilberto, Pizzarelli's voice is perfectly suited to "The Girl from Ipanema" and other slinky bossa nova tunes. Also Wed Nov 10 at 7:30 pm, Thurs-Sun Nov 11-13 with sets at 7:30 and 9:30 pm, and Sun Nov 14 at 6:30 and 8:30 pm. Jazz Alley, 2033 Sixth Ave, 441-9729, 7:30 pm, $20.50/$24.50.

MOSCOW VIRTUOSI

Sure, this visiting Moscow-based orchestra tackles two by Mozart, the Violin Concerto No. 2 and the Symphony No. 24, but I'm really interested to hear how the reputedly rough-hewn Russian strings saw through Schoenberg's Verkl...rte Nacht and Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings. Benaroya Hall, Third Ave and Union St, 215-4747, 7:30 pm, $26-$80
