OFF THE DEEP END REELS IN RANDY JONES

Ctrl_Alt_Dlt (Stranger music intern Chris Aldrich) recently moved his monthly Off the Deep End event from Triple Door to the Baltic Room, which provides a more generous dance floor for its brand of heady techno. That's a good thing for this month's headliner, as the multitalented DJ/producer/instrument-inventor Randy Jones (aka Caro) is a master of brainy, wiggle-worthy techno. And the OTDE's host is no slouch at moving crowds, be it during regular business time or in the wee morning hours when reality blurs around the edges—which it will do with these guys at the controls. With Phil Phresh. Baltic Room, 9 pm, free, 21+.

FRIDAY 3/25

HUGE MINIMALIST BOOKING: FRANK BRETSCHNEIDER AND THE SIGHT BELOW

Here's more proof that 2011 is looking like the breakout year for Sean Horton's Decibel organization. German producer Frank Bretschneider (aka Komet)—besides corunning one of the greatest abstract-electronic-music labels ever, Raster-Noton—has recorded a phenomenal amount of precisely chiseled, minimalist funk. At once clinical and paradoxically sexy as hell, his perfectly cropped compositions are so cool and economical, they burn holes in your cochlea (figuratively!). Bretschneider's touring behind his new Komet album on Shitkatapult, which is shaping up to be his most danceable work yet. Bonus: His backing visuals always dazzle. Supporting is Seattle producer the Sight Below, who creates beautiful, wispily drifting techno with ice water in its veins, evoking a muted grandeur. He'll be unveiling a new 45-minute set—along with previously unseen visuals—tonight in preparation for his April tour with Pantha du Prince. Baltic Room, 9 pm, $12 adv/$15 DOS, 21+.

DJ HEATHER MAKES A HOUSE CALL TO DIALED

The Uniting Souls crew has booked DJ Heather, one of the finest Chicago house selectors. She's a traditionalist who nevertheless always makes her sets sound fresh, funky, and felicitous. I saw her rock a nearly full tent at Coachella a few years ago, so imagine what she can do to a smallish venue full of house-music diehards. Mercy... With DJ Mercedes and Ramiro. Baltic Room, 9 pm, $10, 21+.
