THURSDAY 5/26

NEXT-LEVEL FUNK FOR JAPAN RELIEF

One hopes you're not suffering from compassion fatigue, though no one could blame you what with seemingly half the shows happening these days benefiting some unfortunate individual, organization, or country. But if you can attend only one such event this week, make it One Night Relief Aid Benefit for Japan. Truckasauras continue their irrepressible ascent to electro-funk godhead status; you know this because we've pounded it into your head already and you've witnessed it with your own ears and eyes. Further, the lineup boasts the avant-hiphop adventurousness of State of the Artist and Metal Chocolates (MC Rik Rude and producer OC Notes). Flamboyantly funkin' in deep space, these 206 artists are making the whole concept of area-code pride seem restrictive and parochial. Get your interstellar overdrive on. With dj100proof. Neumos, 8 pm, $10 adv/$12 DOS, 21+.

BURDFUR IS GREEN FEATHERS RELEASE PARTY

Burdfur Is Green Feathers (Seattle producer William Finsel) has a self-titled, limited-edition, vinyl-only LP that's been years in the making and which may take years to fully absorb. (Full disclosure: I wrote his press bio.) Burdfur's roots in rock—he played keyboards and sang for Ohio psychonauts Fuzzhead and Heliocentric Groove Band—subliminally surface in his analog-electronic compositions. The album abounds with songs that at first seem vaguely accessible, but the harder you listen, the stranger the sound field becomes. Weirdly tuned guitar coloration by accomplices Jermaine Blair and Tom Odjendyk commingle with Burdfur's wriggling, wheezing keyboard ooze, resulting in a disorienting tonal surrealism somewhere in the zonked territory of Moondog, the Residents, and Sun Ra at his Moog-iest. This show is part of the Voltage Control bimonthly, hosted by Electrosect and the Naturebot. Living Room, 9 pm, free, 21+.

TUESDAY 5/31

JULIE C'S EP RELEASE PARTY AT STOP BITING

Whoa, I've been sleeping on Seattle beatmaker Julie C (aka Julie Chang Schulman), despite several mentions in Mr. Mizell's My Philosophy column. Apologies! And, lo, now she's dropping a new EP titled Sliding Scale. You and I can catch up on her authoritative, eloquent, socially aware flows over menacingly sexy G-funk productions tonight at Stop Biting's weekly hiphop spectacular. With WD4D, Sho Nuph, DJ B Girl & Introcut, Suntonio Bandanaz, Orb, and Sage Nomad. Lo-Fi Performance Gallery, 9:30 pm, $5, 21+.
