David Byrd is a painter in his 80s who has simply never stopped making art, despite the fact that he’s never had a solo show in a commercial gallery before. To get here, he will take the first airplane ride of his life from his upstate New York hometown. And the paintings and sculptures, which will represent various periods of his life and span the entire first floor of the Kucera Gallery, perfectly exude his air of folksy, eccentric innocence. It’s rare that an established dealer takes a chance like this one. This is your chance to meet the man, too: Byrd will give his artist talk at noon. (Greg Kucera Gallery, 212 Third Ave S, gregkucera.com, 10:30 am–5:30 pm, free, April 4-May 18)
