DIVERSIONS

THURSDAY 9/2

RUGBY -- I don't really know what rugby is, aside from a mid-80's fashion statement. CONFLICT OF INTEREST

FRIDAY 9/3

THE CINEMA EXPLOSION -- Jon Behrens and Steve Creson saw my Super 8 film "I Am a Superhero" last month and asked me if they could include it in their show. Of course I said yes. Here's the funny part: I haven't seen it yet. I hand-developed the mostly unexposed film, pulled off chunks of emulsion, and scratched lines and letters into the frames, then added the audio-diary musings of a self-centered superhero (example: "I had a delicious breakfast this morning; it was expensive.") Over the top, but because of trips and a vacation, I never saw the final product. I'll be there to see my film, along with the films of Jon and Steve, Rachel Lord, Mia Roozen, Jason Gutz, Todd Zap, and the wonderful Web Crowell. -- Andy Spletzer. The Rendezvous, 2320 Second Ave, 7:30 pm & 9:30 pm, $6.

TUESDAY 9/7

DEREK STROUP -- Los Angeles artist Derek Stroup shows a series of drawings and sculpture of rooftop TV antennas in a show titled Field Guide. Stroup's delicate, plain drawings and sculptures create a taxonomic classification of these outmoded structures. Conflict of interest note: Stranger Senior Writer Eric Fredericksen curates the art shows for this venue. The Little Theatre, 608 19th Ave E, 329-2629. Opens Tues Sept 7, 6-8 pm, through Oct 17.
